ABOUT US

SBS is one of the world’s most unique and innovative media organisations, producing trusted, meaningful, and engaging content that exists for all Australians to inspire, support and celebrate the diversity of our multicultural society.
Our purpose, for the last 50 years, has reflected and explored the evolving diversity of Australia, investing in initiatives to deepen its connections with communities, sharing their stories and giving a voice to those often unheard, with the aim of increasing understanding and respect of the differences that make up Australia.
SBS is a truly distinctive network, showcasing multicultural, multilingual and First Nations stories otherwise untold in the Australian media.

Our News and Current Affairs team has developed a leading-edge digital strategy and is looking for an experienced senior News Editor who shares our vision of increasing quality content online.

  • Supervise a team of dynamic and dedicated digital journalists, editors and sub-editors to ensure SBS News generates, develops and fosters content ideas that uphold SBS standards and reflect the SBS Charter and its unique identity.
  • Reporting to the Senior Editorial Lead NACA Digital, and working closely with the Features Editor and Supervising Video Producer, you will act as the newsroom’s Digital Chief of Staff, leading the on-the-day coverage of major news events, assigning reporters to cover national and international news stories as well as reactive content.
  • Liaise with correspondents across Australia, in Europe and Asia, as well as the wider newsroom and other SBS verticals, lead training and provide feedback to the Digital team, cross-platform reporters and Canberra bureau, and attend planning meetings with the wider newsroom.
  • Across major national and international news stories and know how to tell them differently to reflect Australia’s diversity, as well as deliver them to all Australians in a timely and compelling way.
  • It is a requirement of this role that incumbents are vaccinated with at least two doses of an approved Covid-19 vaccination. We do however have a medical exemption process and we would be happy to discuss your application should this be applicable to you
