Description
Salary range: £52,192 - £55,323  p.a. incl. London weighting (plus fantastic benefits!) Contract: Fixed term / Secondment with line manager approval (12 months)  Hours of work: 36 hours per week      Location: Civic Centre and other locations from time to time      Support Brent Council’s goal of reducing digital inequality, empowering all residents to participate fully in modern life     Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.     The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.  The Post This role within the Digital Transformation team will lead on a suite of projects focussed on tackling digital exclusion across the borough of Brent. The appointed candidate will play a key role in ensuring that residents have fair and equal access to digital tools, skills, and opportunities. The post will involve: * Developing and delivering digital inclusion initiatives: Designing programmes that help residents gain essential digital skills, from basic device use to navigating online services * Line management of a Digital Project Support Officer: Providing clear direction on the project support required, tailored development opportunities and contributing to a positive team culture * Supporting vulnerable and digitally excluded groups: Working with older adults, low income households, people with disabilities, and others who face barriers to digital access * Building partnerships across the community: Collaborating with libraries, community centres, charities, schools, and local businesses to expand digital support networks * Improving access to devices and connectivity: Coordinating schemes that provide loaned devices, affordable broadband options, or public Wi Fi access points * Promoting digital confidence and safety: Helping residents understand online safety, privacy, and how to use digital services securely * Monitoring impact and reporting outcomes: Collecting data, evaluating programme effectiveness, and reporting on progress to the Council’s internal boards and sharing learning with external partners. The overarching aim of this position is to reduce digital inequality, empower residents to participate fully in modern life, and support the Council’s broader goals around inclusion, economic development, and access to public services. If you are ready to lead with purpose, inspire collaboration and make a lasting difference in the lives of others, this is your chance to join a fast-moving service where your passion and expertise will be valued, and your work will be of impact directly with Brent’s many diverse communities. The Person The successfully appointed candidate will demonstrate a combination of strategic mindset with a deep commitment to social equity. They understand that digital exclusion is rarely just about technology—it’s tied to confidence, access, literacy, and broader socioeconomic barriers. Because of this, they bring a values‑driven attitude: empathetic, patient, and genuinely motivated to improve outcomes for residents who are often overlooked. They approach challenges with curiosity rather than judgement, and they’re comfortable working in communities where trust must be earned, not assumed. To thrive in this role the candidate will need to be both analytical and hands‑on. They will be confident interpreting data to identify gaps, measure impact, and shape targeted interventions, while also being able to translate insights into practical programmes that resonate with diverse groups. Strong partnership‑building skills are essential—they’ll be working across council departments, with voluntary sector organisations, health partners, and local businesses. They should be willing to work from satellite sites and at partner facilities located across the borough in order to provide the digital inclusion support where it is needed. They will communicate with clarity and warmth, tailoring their style to everyone from senior leaders to residents with limited digital confidence. The role is suited to someone resilient, adaptable, and collaborative. Local authority environments can be complex and resource‑constrained, so the ideal candidate will stay solution‑focused and pragmatic without losing sight of long‑term ambitions. They will succeed in a role where influence matters more than authority, and they’re comfortable championing digital inclusion as a shared responsibility across the organisation. Above all, they bring a blend of leadership, humility, and creativity—able to inspire others, listen deeply, and design initiatives that genuinely meet people where they are. Why join us? We know people achieve their best when they feed valued. At Brent, you’ll benefit from: * Up to 33 days annual leave (depending on length of service) plus bank holidays * Excellent pension with generous employer contributions (LGPS) [https://www.lgpsmember.org/] * Hybrid and flexible working options available for most roles * Supportive family-friendly policies for parent, guardians, and carers * Health and wellbeing support, including access to eye test support and a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme * Financial support such as education sessions, childcare deposit loans, and season ticket loans * Travel perks including affordable parking nearby, a Cycle to Work scheme, and great onsite facilities * Learning and development opportunities to help you grow your career * Access to My Brent Rewards with exclusive discounts on shopping, travel, leisure, and entertainment Closing date: 6 April 2026 (23:59) Additional Information  If you are interested in applying for this job, please start by clicking the "Apply Now" button below.
