The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) issues secure driver and identity credentials while delivering exceptional customer service to millions of Georgians. DDS is committed to innovation, operational excellence, and the use of technology to enhance public safety and service delivery.
Position Overview: DDS seeks an innovative, strategic, and results-driven Director of Information Technology to lead and enhance its IT functions in support of the agency’s mission to deliver secure, technology-driven, customer-focused services.
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Innovation & Technology, the Director will develop and execute a forward-thinking IT strategy using modern technologies, including cloud computing, virtualization, enterprise mobility, zero-trust security, and AI-powered analytics. This leader will ensure DDS’s IT systems are secure, reliable, cost-effective, and adaptable to business needs.
The ideal candidate will be a proven leader capable of managing complex IT operations, overseeing third-party vendors, and fostering partnerships with the Georgia Technology Authority (GTA), the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), and other public and private stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, business administration, public administration or a related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess three or more of the following:

  • Executive-level leadership experience in public sector IT.
  • Proven success in cloud migration and hybrid cloud management.
  • Experience with enterprise cybersecurity frameworks and compliance standards.
  • Extensive vendor management experience, including contract negotiations and SLA enforcement.
  • Knowledge of AAMVA systems, national driver record exchanges, and identity verification standards.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical strategies.
