The Direct and Indirect Tax Compliance Specialist is responsible for end‑to‑end gaming tax compliance across all African jurisdictions in which Betway operates. Serving as the regional subject matter expert, this role ensures full adherence to local gaming tax laws and regulations while maintaining strong relationships with gaming boards and regulatory authorities. In addition to gaming tax oversight, the position supports the review of Direct Tax calculations and contributes to the review and compliance of Indirect Taxes, including operational taxes. Key Focus Areas: Full management of gaming tax compliance across multiple African markets. Acting as the compliance champion for gaming tax across the region. Engaging with regulators and gaming boards to uphold compliance standards. Assisting with review of Direct Tax and other Indirect Tax calculations and submissions. Audit & Governance • Support on tax-related audit processes (internal, external – statutory and tax authority), including the collection and provision of information to tax auditors. • Review & assist with updating Africa and group tax matrices and communicate updates where needed. Regulatory Engagement • Assist with liaison with gaming boards and regulatory authorities. • Respond to queries and provide documentation to regulators as required. • Liaise with external advisors and consultants to obtain expert advice and support. • Work closely with the Country Managers, Head of Tax – Africa and other internal stakeholders to build and maintain strong relationships with gaming boards and related statutory bodies to ensure smooth compliance processes. Process & Controls • Develop and implement robust compliance processes for gaming and operational tax obligations in line with internal SOX controls. Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits and regulatory reviews. • Support internal audits and risk assessments related to gaming tax compliance. Advisory & Support • Stay updated on global tax developments and best practices • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency and compliance • Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on gaming and operational tax matters. • Collaborate with finance, legal, and operations teams to ensure compliance integration. • Assist in resolving gaming and operational tax disputes or queries from authorities. • Provide training and support to internal teams on tax matters Qualifications & Experience Education • Post-graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field. • Professional tax qualification (e.g., CTA, ACCA, CIMA) preferred. Experience • Minimum 3–5 years in direct and indirect tax compliance, preferably with exposure to gaming or regulated industries. • Strong understanding of African tax environments and preferably gaming tax regulations This position requires trust and honesty it has access to customers financial details - therefore a credit and criminal record check will be conducted.
