JOB OVERVIEW

As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs. You will provide compassionate care and support to help clients achieve their personal goals while promoting independence and dignity. This position requires a dedicated individual who is passionate about working with diverse populations, including those with Alzheimer’s, autism, and other disabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in caregiving or direct support roles is preferred, particularly in home & community care or long-term care settings.
  • Familiarity with first aid, CPR, and patient observation techniques is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of dementia care practices and experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism is a plus.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting as required for client mobility assistance.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
  • A compassionate demeanor with a commitment to providing high-quality care.
  • Understanding of care plans and the ability to follow instructions accurately. This role is essential in providing the necessary support that empowers individuals to live fulfilling lives while ensuring their safety and well-being. Responsibilities
  • Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
  • Provide patient care and support in various settings including group homes, assisted living facilities, and home health environments.
  • Monitor clients’ vital signs and overall health status while ensuring compliance with care plans.
  • Administer medications as prescribed and maintain accurate records in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation.
  • Perform light cleaning duties to maintain a safe and hygienic living environment for residents.
  • Utilize equipment such as Hoyer lifts for safe patient transfers when necessary.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance the well-being of clients.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and social workers to develop effective care strategies.
