Description The Direct Materials Buyer will play a critical role in Tangent's operations by sourcing and procuring direct materials (e.g., hardware, packaging, and components) essential for furniture manufacturing and assembly. This position involves leveraging our SyteLine ERP system and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to forecast needs based on production schedules, negotiate with vendors, ensure on-time deliveries, and maintain accurate inventory levels. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in procurement within manufacturing environments, strong vendor relationship skills, and a focus on cost control, quality assurance, and process efficiency. This role reports to the Mass Market planning team and collaborates closely with production, engineering, and logistics teams to support on-schedule project completions and optimize the supply chain. Requirements ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Source and evaluate vendors for direct purchase items, including tooling, hardware, and supplies used in furniture production, ensuring compliance with quality standards and cost-effectiveness. Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to achieve the best value, while building and maintaining strong vendor relationships to support long-term reliability. Utilize SyteLine ERP and BOMs to analyze production forecasts, quantify material requirements, create purchase orders and requisitions, and adjust inventory levels based on demand, safety stock, and lead times. Monitor inventory accuracy, including unrestricted stock availability, returns, and adjustments, to prevent shortages and minimize surplus. Coordinate with production and operations teams to ensure materials are available for scheduled orders, expediting or de-expediting shipments as needed. Collaborate with quality assurance on vendor performance, material compliance, and documentation (e.g., verifying shipments meet expected standards and resolving issues). Work with accounts payable to match receipts with invoices, resolve price discrepancies, and ensure accurate payments. Analyze inventory balances and supplier performance using reports from ERP systems, identifying opportunities for improvements in supply chain efficiency. Maintain up-to-date master data in the ERP for standard pricing, vendor information, and material descriptions. REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SyteLine, SAP, or Oracle) for managing inventory, purchase orders, and requisitions. Strong understanding of BOMs, MRP (Material Requirements Planning), and inventory management principles. Proven track record in vendor sourcing, negotiation, and relationship management. Experience collaborating cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and production teams to ensure material availability and resolve issues. Familiarity with quality control processes and documentation for incoming materials. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to run reports, analyze data, and make data-driven decisions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel for tracking forecasts and inventory EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or a related field (Master's degree in Operations Management or Leadership preferred). 3+ years of experience in procurement, buying, or supply chain roles within manufacturing, preferably in furniture, consumer goods, or related industries. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent experience in process optimization. APICS CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) certification (in progress or completed). Experience in furniture or similar assembly-based manufacturing Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with seasonal production demands. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
