Description This is a FT (40 hrs. / per week) position: Sunday - 3pm - 11pm Monday - off Tuesday - off Wednesday - 1pm - 9pm Thursday - 2pm - 10pm Friday - 1pm - 9pm Saturday - 2pm - 10pm This position is posted internal and external. $17.00 / hour starting wage for new hires (external). POSITION DESCRIPTION LITTLE BITTERROOT SERVICES DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL 1– FT – SUPPORTED LIVING Summary: The DSP1-FT- Supported Living position is responsible teach and demonstrate community living skills to consumers with developmental disabilities. This position provides supports to encourage and promote independence in order for LBSI consumers to maintain current skills and gain new ones. This person will need to establish and maintain good working relationships with consumers, family\friends and outside professionals. This person will participate in routine operations of the facility which includes assistance with meal preparation, meal planning, budgeting, monitor facility maintenance, cleaning, transportation, and recreational opportunities. This person will provide safety training to all consumers. This position is in a team setting and reports directly to the Supported Living Manager. Exemption Status: Non-exempt Direct Reports: None Work Schedule: Varies based on the needs of the consumers Essential Duties and Responsibilities Ability to maintain flexibility to work any hours requested within a 24-hour period. Ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.. Must be capable of giving, receiving, interpreting, and applying verbal and/or written instructions and directions. Maintain a safe environment for everyone, which may include using and demonstrating proper safety skills and / or using the proper safety equipment. Fill in and work, if necessary, in any Little Bitterroot Services areas. Ability to pass and maintain Little Bitterroot Services training, which includes First-Aid, CPR, MANDT (management of non-aggressive adults with disabilities), State mandated Medication Certification, and College of Direct Supports. Ability to acquire training to support individuals with special needs such as wheelchairs, walkers, and other specialized medical equipment as well as positive behavioral supports. Ability to acquire knowledge of the habilitation process, policies, and procedures for DPHHS-DDD Habilitation training, principles of community integration and normalization, and techniques of non-aversive training acquired through completion of identified sections of in-house training programs. Develop and maintain a positive and effective relationship with consumers, families, guardians, neighborhood businesses, representatives of public service agencies and other co-workers of Little Bitterroot Services. Assist in and maintain compliance of the services of the residential setting to standards prescribed by Little Bitterroot Services and the State Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services. Follow and understand all written protocols (eating, choking, AWOL clients, etc.), excellent communication with other staff members on shift, during shift changes as well as with site manager is imperative. Demonstrate skills to consumers, runs, implementation strategies, graphs, and records data, writes case notes, and incident reports, performs assessments, records billing, assists in the preparation of PSP’s for assigned consumers, these tasks are almost daily. Assist each consumer with basic living skills (e.g., social & domestic) through specific instruction and positive programs. Assist with personal hygiene as needed (e.g., bathing, brushing teeth, shaving, nail clipping, dressing and overall general appearance). Perform or assist consumers with basic domestic / housekeeping duties as needed (e.g., cooking, cleaning, and laundry). Complete all paperwork required by Little Bitterroot Services, the State of Montana, and the Developmental Disability Division (e.g., daily checklists, medication administration records, program documentation, mileage logs, Incident reports, case notes, timesheets etc.). Serve as a good role model, maintain good personal boundaries with all consumers’ and co-workers and always maintain professionalism. This includes no horseplay, distraction of other employees or playing practical jokes at any time. Provide in-home and community supervision according to the individual needs of all consumers. Responsible for and ability to maintain confidential information. Operate corporate vehicles to provide transportation to consumers when working day or swing shifts. Ability to manage time wisely and independently Ability to check employee company email accounts regularly (at least weekly) and access / write case notes in the client communication platform a minimum of 1X weekly. Responsible for assuring that all consumers receive quality leisure and recreation as well as community integration per our DD contract. Assist consumers in taking medications, monitoring medications of consumers that are independent in taking their medications, models appropriate social skills to consumers at all times. Shows ability to cope with unusual circumstances and to cordially interact with co-workers to accomplish common tasks. Continues to show ability to share equally with co-workers such unpleasant tasks such as toileting or cleaning up after toileting or illness. Ability to share equally in behaviorally unpleasant circumstances such as when consumers are violent or becoming violent. Ability to continue in position with help from others. Ability and knowledge to take consumers to medical appointments. Uses exercise, physical therapy, and safety techniques, attends community events. Role models desired behaviors on a continuous basis. Frequent uses of communication techniques. Frequently spends more time during the day using MANDT techniques with consumers so that they will not become verbally or physically upset. Will spend approximately 20% of workday on paperwork or computer usage and 80% of day with consumers in the work area engaged with consumers. Keeps the Supported Living Manager appraise of any problem or potential problem areas regarding all training activities, staffing and routine operations. Must follow the policy on wearing safety equipment during inclement weather. Must wear cleats when icy. Staff are responsible for shoveling snow from the sidewalk and use snow melt. Attends all mandatory meetings as required, and keeps all necessary documentation as required. Regular attendance is required. Perform other duties as assigned Required Minimum Qualifications: Ability to successfully perform all responsibilities shown above. Ability to establish and maintain professional, effective, harmonious working relationships. Ability to pass criminal and other background checks. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal or written) with all stakeholders, including but not limited to co-workers, consumers, family members, and other community members. Must be capable of giving, receiving, interpreting, and applying verbal and\or written instructions and directions. Ability to occasionally bend, squat, walk (distance), reach, aid in mobility assistance, lie on floor (with consumer); render hygiene assistance. Ability to process and analyze information, show critical thinking and positive decision-making skills. Ability to safely and frequently lift, move or otherwise handle items weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to frequently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine, telephone, camera, video recorder, printer, etc. Ability to check employee company email accounts regularly (at least weekly) and access / write case notes in the client communication platform a minimum of 1X weekly. Possession of a Montana Driver’s license and maintain a good driving record to meet the requirement for insurability to be covered by company vehicle insurance. This position requires education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and completions of occupationally specific training. Job Demands While performing the duties of this job, employee frequently communicates with employees and consumers. This position must be able to exchange accurate information during new employee orientation and training. During a normal 8-hour shift employee will be standing up and moving at least 80% of the time. Bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling etc., are common motions to be expected. Walking and working surfaces are normally even. Exposure to sights, sounds, odors, and physical or verbal aggression may be encountered.
