Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide person-centered services and supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in their own homes in the community. DSPs play a vital role in helping people live a meaningful and purposeful life in the direction of their choice. DSPs actively teach, coach, mentor, and encourage people to embrace and increase their independence and meet their personal goals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Willingness to work a diverse schedule based on the needs and preferences of the people we support
Ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift items weighing at least 75 pounds
Meets 460 IAC 6 minimum qualifications for a direct care staff:
460 IAC 6-14-5 REQUIREMENTS FOR DIRECT CARE STAFF
Sec. 5. All direct care staff working with individuals shall meet the following requirements:
(1) Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
(2) Demonstrate the ability to communicate adequately in order to:
(A) complete required forms and reports of visits; and
(B) follow oral or written instructions.
(3) Demonstrate the ability to provide services according to the individual’s ISP.
(4) Demonstrate willingness to accept supervision.
(5) Demonstrate an interest in and empathy for individuals.
If providing transportation to service participants, meet 460 IAC 6 requirements:
460 IAC 6-34-2 VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS
Sec. 2. A provider of transportation services shall ensure that an individual is transported only in a vehicle:
(1) maintained in good repair;
(2) properly registered with the Indiana bureau of motor vehicles; and
(3) insured as required under Indiana law.
Current negative TB (Tuberculin test) as required by 460 IAC 6
Acceptable background checks as required by 460 IAC 6 and Indiana DDRS policy
