Job Details Job Location: Columbia, MD 21044 Position Type: Part Time Education Level: High School Salary Range: $20.00 - $20.00 Hourly Job Shift: Morning Job Category: Nonprofit - Social Services Location: Columbia Position Summary: Direct Support Professionals (DSP) provide individualized, professional, and compassionate support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The DSP is familiar with the agency’s mission and standards of support and actively participates in the betterment of the organization. These principles are carried out by consistently demonstrating respect, trustworthiness, and strong communication skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the person(s) supported in making informed choices, developing strategies, taking risks, following through on responsibilities, and achieving personal goals based on their values and interests. Implement the person-centered plan, ensuring the outcomes align with their preferences, needs, and interests. Maintain collaborative, professional relationships with the person(s) supported and all members of their support team (including family, friends, and professionals), adhering to ethical standards such as confidentiality, informed consent, and respect for autonomy. Provide direct support with daily living tasks. Support the person(s) in advocating for themselves and offer guidance and encouragement as they work to overcome challenges and pursue an active, fulfilling life in the community. Identify behavioral or environmental risk factors and collaborate with the team to implement proactive or responsive crisis intervention strategies tailored to the individual. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to [insert name(s)], collect and compile data, and submit records as required while upholding confidentiality and professional standards. Observe and document health-related concerns, take action to support healthy living, and implement preventive measures to reduce illness and accidents. Foster trust and build meaningful, supportive relationships with the person(s) supported, coworkers, and others by using respectful, clear, and professional verbal and written communication. Qualifications Required Knowledge/Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED Valid Maryland Driver's License with less than 3 points Computer Literacy (Including Microsoft Word and the use of Google Mail, ICM and Paycom) Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to successfully complete all ODA, Arc of Howard County and MBON required trainings Ability to lift 25-30 lbs.
