JOB SUMMARY:

A Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides support and assistance to individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges in daily living, social activities, personal care, and other areas of life. The DSP helps clients achieve independence, maintain dignity, and enhance their quality of life.

Duties

  • Support clients in social activities and community engagement.
  • Provide hands-on assistance with personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, meal preparation, and feeding as needed.
  • Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client’s needs.
  • Ensure compliance with resident rights and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Provide assistance with daily living skills for individuals.
  • Facilitate communication between clients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Implement individualized behavior management plans in a positive, constructive manner.

SKILLS

  • Understanding of resident rights and advocacy for individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with individuals and their families.
  • Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations.
  • Empathy and understanding of the needs of people with disabilities.
  • Ability to follow detailed care plans and health guidelines.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities in a caregiving capacity is essential.
