Description Location: Midwest Travel Required (IL, WI) Position Summary SRU Electric LLC is seeking an experienced Directional Boring Locator (HDD) to support our telecom directional boring crews. This position is responsible for accurately tracking and guiding the drill head during underground fiber and conduit installations while maintaining safe bore depth and alignment. The ideal candidate understands HDD tracking systems, utility locates, and production-driven telecom environments. Key Responsibilities Operate and monitor HDD tracking systems (Digitrak or similar) Track drill head depth, pitch, and alignment Communicate continuously with the Drill Operator to guide bore path Read and interpret construction prints and utility locate markings Identify existing utilities and maintain safe clearance Maintain bore logs and production documentation Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies Travel to job sites throughout the Midwest Requirements 1–3+ years of drill locating experience (telecom preferred) Experience with Digitrak or comparable locating systems Ability to read prints and understand underground utility markings Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a crew Valid driver’s license (CDL A preferred) Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions Willingness to travel and work extended rotations Benefits Medical, dental, and vision insurance after 60 days 401(k) with company match Company-paid short- and long-term disability PTO and 7 paid holiday.
