Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President (AVP), Accounting Advisory, the Director, Accounting Advisory is responsible for supporting and developing SLF’s accounting policies and financial reporting under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The incumbent will participate in the implementation of new accounting standards, researching the accounting implications of business initiatives and other transactions, the review of corporate financial statements and notes, and participate in other projects as required.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Work closely with the AVP and partner with business groups to provide advice on the accounting implications of business initiatives and other transactions throughout the organization
  • Implement new financial reporting standards as required by IFRS
  • Assess impacts on financial reporting processes and internal controls as well as changes to business metrics resulting from new accounting standards
  • Prepare and review technical accounting memos on transactions and initiatives, as well as existing applications of IFRS in light of evolving industry practices and benchmarking
  • Communicate new accounting standards and external developments in IFRS, including delivering presentations in regular company-wide IFRS education programs
  • Review financial statements and notes for the quarterly and annual financial statements required for external reporting
  • Coach managers within the team
