Position Title: Director, Adoptions and Retail Operations Full Time
Department: Adoptions and Retail Operations
Reports to: Chief Operations Officer
Classification: Non-Union

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director Adoptions & Retail is responsible for developing strategies, plans, and establishing measurable outcomes as it relates to both Adoptions and the WHS Pet Shop. They mentor and manage Adoptions & Retail staff to focus on the movement and adoption outcome of shelter animals, and they focus on retail best practices to help support the Pet Shop to achieve success in increased sales both online and in store. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Director Adoptions & Retail is expected to operationalize the departments’ strategic priorities, independently carry out the established responsibilities of the position while also working directly and collaboratively with all department heads and staff.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Part of the Senior Management Team, the role is directly responsible for the integration of strategy and direction of the Department’s operations and supervision of the team.
· The incumbent establishes methods and procedures for attaining specific goals and objectives and receives guidance on broad goals and objectives.
· Maintain confidentiality on all matters pertaining to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Responsibilities

SPECIFIC TO THE ROLE

· Experience handling a wide variety of animal species and breeds.
· Experience in retail sales, marketing, and inventory control.
The following qualifications and experience are desired and would be considered assets:
· Degree in animal welfare or related field.
· Experience working in a non-profit environment.

SPECIFIC TO THE ROLE

· Strong animal handling skills
· Public speaking in front of groups and via video or live on media.
· Strong retail, cash handling, and inventory control skills.
The following knowledge and skills are desired and would be considered assets:
· Knowledge of domestic animals, their care and animal welfare issues.
· Bilingual (English/French).
