ORGANIZATION:

Founded in 2003, AMI Housing is a California-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to house and support the most vulnerable residents of the Sierra Region by enhancing the lives of people with mental illness by providing housing, employment, and supportive services.

SUMMARY OF PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

This Director position is a senior leadership role responsible for the overall management and success of AMI Housing, Inc.’s multi-unit housing and service complexes in Placer County. This includes oversight of day-to-day operations across a range of integrated programs, including permanent supportive housing, short-term crisis housing, a recovery center, and specialized housing for veterans. This position requires a licensed clinician (LCSW or LMFT) with experience in Medi-Cal billing and delivering or supervising specialty behavioral health care. This role plays a critical role in ensuring clinical services meet quality and compliance standards while maximizing funding opportunities through Medi-Cal and other eligible reimbursement streams.
In addition to clinical oversight, this position requires a solid foundation in management principles, a strategic mindset, and the ability to lead diverse teams. The Director ensures that all operations align with the established policies, procedures, and strategic objectives of AMI Housing, Inc., while maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as contractual and grant obligations.

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations governing the Housing First Model.
  • Sound knowledge of landlord/tenant laws.
  • Strong de-escalation and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Experience in budget preparation and monitoring
  • Knowledge of supportive housing program models and services, including knowledge of landlord/tenant laws

  • Computer skills sufficient to perform duties promptly (including documentation data entry).

EDUCATION//BACKGROUND:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited program in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Counseling, or closely related behavioral health field required.
  • Must hold and maintain an active California license as one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
  • Additional coursework or professional development in nonprofit leadership, housing policy, or program administration is preferred.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Complete and pass pre-employment background checks (fingerprints, drug and alcohol testing, and criminal background checks).

WORK EXPERIENCE MAY INCLUDE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in behavioral health, social services, or housing-related nonprofit settings.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership or program management experience at the Director, Program Manager, or similar senior level.
  • Experience overseeing or collaborating on permanent supportive housing, recovery residences, or county-funded programs strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Medi-Cal programs, behavioral health documentation, and Medi-Cal Administrative Activities (MAA) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage complex projects, and work effectively with county and community partners

  • Perform other duties consistent with the goals and objectives of the program as assigned by CEO.
  • Serve as the agency’s designated licensed clinician, supporting integration of behavioral health services into agency operations and guiding clinical decision-making during the Medi-Cal certification process.
  • Represent the agency in external collaborations with county partners and stakeholders related to service expansion, housing initiatives, and Medi-Cal participation.
  • Conduct program and housing intakes, including lease signings, for individuals moving into various housing programs to ensure smooth transitions into housing.
  • Review all legal documentation for accuracy, including pay or quit notices, 3-day behavior notices, and 30- and 60-day notices.
  • Deliver legally required notices such as 3-Day Perform Covenant or Quit, 3-Day Pay or Quit, and other landlord/tenant-related notices directly to residents or tenants in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage and resolve issues of direct reports with other AMIH programs.
  • Drive initiatives in the management team and organizationally that contribute to long-term operational excellence
  • Develop, coordinate, prepare, and help implement project plans to support agency initiatives that improve operations and administrative functions.
  • Improve the operational systems, processes, and policies in support of the organization’s mission, specifically, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process, and organizational planning.
  • Assist in implementing plans, strategies, policies, and procedures to promote and carry out the organization’s goals, objectives, mission, and vision.
  • Ensure the safety and maintenance of all housing through ongoing assessment of maintenance requirements and communication with the facilities team regarding the repair needs of all apartments.
  • Assist with the program’s fiscal responsibilities, including program fee payment, payment plans, and manage issues related to unpaid rent.
  • When requested, provide program reports on all programmatic activities and updates to the Board of Directors, the Homeless Resource Council of the Sierras (HRCS), Continuum of Care, the Placer Campaign for Community Wellness, and others, as requested.
  • Participate in the agency’s Medi-Cal Administrative Activities (MAA) claiming unit as a time study participant, accurately documenting allowable activities in accordance with county and state guidelines to support agency reimbursement efforts.
  • Participate in required MAA training sessions to understand eligible activities and documentation requirements.
