Meta is seeking a talented and flexible generalist lawyer to join the APAC legal team as Director and Associate General Counsel, Head of Greater China and Central Asia. The role is broad and, among other things, involves advising internal clients on legal and regulatory risks and strategy in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Central Asia. In this role, you will work both independently and with large multi-stakeholder teams. We are looking for someone with sharp analytical and communication skills, demonstrated political nous and who is diligent, proactive, collaborative, and has proven track record of legal and business judgment and strategic thinking. This role will also require an openness to travel as and when required. The position will report to the Vice-President and Head of APAC Legal based in Singapore. Responsibilities Advisory, strategic counselling and project management responsibility with respect to a broad range of legal and regulatory areas Work collaboratively with the APAC and global legal teams, as well as public policy, communications and sales & marketing teams, to advise on legal and regulatory strategy for the Greater China and Central Asia region, effectively balancing domestic and global perspectives Participation in other projects (both Asia and global based) as directed Lead and manage a team of legal counsels Qualifications Meta requires all employed attorneys to have a law degree or equivalent certificate to permit the practice of law and be appropriately licensed and authorized to practice law for the company in their assigned work location. Unless prohibited under local law, an attorney must hold a current practicing certificate (including where required from the relevant authority in the jurisdiction of the assigned work location) or the local law equivalent bar registration or license as may be applicable 15+ years of relevant legal experience, including at a law firm or prior in-house experience Demonstrated understanding of Greater China’s legal framework, experience engaging with regulators is a plus Professional working proficiency in English and Mandarin as this role will engage with stakeholders whose usual business language is English and/or Mandarin Demonstrated experience advising clients on a wide variety of subject matter and regulatory issues, including issues relating to data protection, AI, Privacy, Content, Cybersecurity laws, corporate, tax Experience managing teams and leading cross-functional efforts Demonstrated communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, and experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams Proven experience navigating stakeholders through highly ambiguous situations Track record of exercising judgment and providing practical solutions Experience employing AI tools in general and advisory work Project Management skills Prior experience working for a multinational corporation in China/HK would be advantageous Qualified to practice in Hong Kong and/or the People’s Republic of China would be a plus Experience at an internet or technology company in Greater China, especially on issues relevant to social media, internet and technology companies (for example, user-generated content)
