EDUCATION

  • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field
  • Project Management Professional certification
  • Member of Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario or a Member of Ontario Association of Architects would be an asset
  • Master of Business Administration preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • 10 years in construction project management
  • 5 years leading a team of project managers
  • Experience in a public sector, large campus or post-secondary academic environment would be an asset

KNOWLDEGE & SKILLS

  • Well-developed planning, organizational, and project management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles of design applied in planning and designing of large complex institutional buildings (e.g. research, medical, or similar facilities)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of applicable building codes, by-laws, and regulations including provincial and municipal accessibility, fire, health and safety standards

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Managing Director, Facilities Development & Engineering the Director, Capital Projects will provide strategic leadership for a team of highly trained and skilled professionals responsible for managing capital projects required to achieve the University’s academic and research objectives. The project workload entails approximately 300 active projects totaling over $100 million annual spend. As part of the Facilities Management Division leadership team, the Director will contribute to Western’s campus by developing the multi-year capital improvement plan and strategies which advance the long-term resiliency of the institution. The Director will work extensively with internal and external stakeholders, consultants and contractors to ensure the implementation of capital projects within the established timelines and budgetary constraints, and in accordance with an approved project plan.
The Director will offer expertise in all aspects of capital projects, and ensure the effective communication, collaboration and alignment of resources to best support the project delivery. The incumbent will collaborate with the Director, Facilities Planning & Design and consult on the design and development of capital project plans. The Director will also collaborate with the Director, Facility Operations for maintenance and infrastructure projects and oversee all phases of the project execution.
