The principles are Innovation, Spiritual Formation, Integrity, Diversity & Inclusion, and Excellence.  About the Role: The Director of the Center for the Study of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will lead the strategic vision and operational management of the center, advancing research, advocacy, and educational initiatives that highlight the significance and impact of HBCUs. This role requires fostering collaborative partnerships with academic institutions, policymakers, and community stakeholders to promote the growth and sustainability of HBCUs. The Director will oversee the development and dissemination of scholarly research, policy analysis, and public programming that supports the mission of the center. Additionally, the position involves securing funding through grants and partnerships to ensure the center's long-term viability and influence. Ultimately, the Director will serve as a national thought leader and advocate, elevating the profile and contributions of HBCUs within higher education and society at large. Minimum Qualifications: * A doctoral degree in higher education, public policy, African American studies, or a related field. * At least 7 years of progressive leadership experience in academic research, higher education administration, or nonprofit management. * Demonstrated expertise in issues related to HBCUs, minority-serving institutions, or educational equity. * Proven track record of securing and managing external funding, including grants and contracts. * Strong communication skills with experience in public speaking, scholarly publishing, and stakeholder engagement. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience working directly with HBCUs or minority-serving institutions in a leadership or advisory capacity. * Established network within higher education, government, and philanthropic sectors focused on diversity and inclusion. * Background in policy analysis and advocacy related to higher education funding and equity. * Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies relevant to education studies. * Experience in managing interdisciplinary teams and complex projects. Responsibilities: * Develop and implement the center’s strategic plan to advance research and advocacy related to HBCUs. * Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of researchers, staff, and fellows to execute the center’s programs and initiatives. * Cultivate and maintain relationships with HBCU leaders, government agencies, philanthropic organizations, and other key stakeholders. * Oversee the production and dissemination of research reports, policy briefs, and educational materials that inform public discourse and policy decisions. * Identify and secure funding opportunities through grant writing, donor engagement, and partnership development. * Represent the center at conferences, public forums, and media engagements to promote its mission and findings. * Ensure compliance with institutional policies, grant requirements, and ethical standards in all center activities. Skills: The Director will utilize advanced leadership and organizational skills daily to guide the center’s strategic direction and manage diverse teams effectively. Strong research and analytical skills are essential for overseeing the development of rigorous studies and translating findings into actionable policy recommendations. Excellent communication skills enable the Director to engage with a wide range of audiences, including academic peers, policymakers, and the public, through presentations, publications, and media interactions. Fundraising and grant management skills are critical for sustaining the center’s financial health and expanding its programs.
