JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University seeks an experienced, student-centered professional to serve as the Director of Student Success for the College’s JD degree that is delivered part-time and online. This role will be central to the academic experience of students pursuing their law degrees in the College’s new part-time and online format, supporting their progress, engagement, and academic success. This includes serving as the primary point of contact for academic success programming tailored to this cohort, including the development of resources and interventions that support student learning, retention, and academic performance throughout the program. The position requires availability during non-traditional working hours. A fully remote arrangement will be considered for this position, however fully remote arrangements will require some travel to Phoenix, Arizona.
This position will report to the Senior Director of Student Services, and the successful candidate will help build and deliver a comprehensive advising framework specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of JD students pursuing their degree part-time and online.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000; DOE

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school. (REQUIRED)
  • Demonstrated experience in designing or delivering academic advising, student services, and/or academic success or learning support services, preferably in a higher education or professional program setting.
  • Experience in supporting student academic success strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of or experience working with online or distance education programs.
  • Commitment to supporting student populations in an inclusive and empathetic manner.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and trust with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with legal education and the structure of JD curricula.
  • Experience developing and using online learning or communication tools (e.g., Canvas, Zoom, Salesforce).
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and early mornings as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Provide academic advising and support to JD students pursuing their degree part-time and online, including guidance on course selection, degree planning, graduation requirements, and connecting students to institutional resources.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for JD students pursuing their degree part-time and online, navigating challenges related to academic progress, personal wellness, and institutional policies.
  • Regularly engage with students through Zoom, phone, and other virtual platforms, maintaining availability outside traditional business hours to accommodate students with various schedules who are in multiple time zones.
  • Coordinate, in collaboration with other departments, onboarding and orientation sessions for new JD students pursuing their degree part-time and online
  • Develop programming to foster a sense of community and belonging amongst the students.
  • Design, implement, and assess academic success initiatives tailored to JD students pursuing their degree part-time and online program; collaborate with the Director of Academic Success to ensure alignment of academic success services across modalities and to adapt successful strategies to the online learning environment.
  • Monitor student performance data to identify academic risk and implement early interventions that promote student retention, persistence, and academic growth.
  • Develop digital tools and asynchronous resources to enhance the online student experience and improve access to support services.
  • Collaborate closely with faculty, departments, and administrative staff to ensure continuity of service and academic standards between the JD delivered part-time and online and full-time and in-person.
  • Assist part-time, online students with connecting to student organizations, wellness resources, and available extracurricular law student activities to foster engagement in the broader ASU Law community.
  • Contribute to the strategic development and operational success of the JD delivered part-time and online through continuous innovation, collaboration, and program assessment.
  • Other duties as assigned to further the goals of the College of Law.
