The City of Toronto is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and people-first leader to serve as our Director of Marketing, Communications & Digital Strategy. This individual will shape and lead our integrated marketing and communications approach across digital, web, creative, and public education platforms.
Reporting directly to the Chief Communications Officer, this role is critical in delivering clear, inclusive, and impactful messaging to residents, businesses, and stakeholders.
The Strategic Public and Employee Communications (SPEC) division is responsible for communicating these programs and services to the public and City staff. SPEC uses an agency-like model to deliver effective marketing and communications programs and campaigns. Through a centralized centres of excellence approach that nurtures growth and opportunities for its staff, SPEC focuses on proactive storytelling that puts the City and its divisions – as partners – at the centre. Integrated communications and marketing activities align with the broader organizational strategy and drive measurable impact. The SPEC division is looking for an experienced and empathetic leader to guide and direct two centres of excellence: Public Education, Marketing and Creative, as well as Digital Engagement.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive expirence in progressive leadership in marketing, communications, digital strategy, or related fields
  • Experience leading multi-functional teams across web, creative, digital, and public engagement disciplines
  • Strong understanding of digital tools, trends, accessibility standards, and analytics platforms
  • Proven track record in agency, public sector, large non-profit, or similarly complex organizations preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate political or public-facing environments with tact, credibility, and diplomacy
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related discipline (Master’s preferred)
