The Valuations team within Deloitte Strategy, Transaction provides advice on all aspects of valuing businesses and assets. This can range from valuing companies, divisions of companies, intellectual property (for example brands) and other income generating assets in the UK and abroad. The team has a client base of prestigious and high-profile clients.

Projects arise wherever there is a question of value, but can broadly be grouped as follows:

  • M&A and investment analysis
  • Tax, financial and regulatory reporting, including fund valuations
  • Litigation, expert determination and disputes
  • Intellectual property and intangible assets
  • Reorganisations, turnarounds and recapitalisations

We are seeking a director to help support, and grow, our Contentious, Dispute and Opinions Valuations work. The work covers expert opinions relating to disputes (litigation and arbitration), expert determination, fairness opinions and advice/opinions to boards in the context of critical decision making.
We are part of a growing team of approximately 100 valuation professionals and 80 modelers including ACAs, MBAs, CFAs and economists from varied and diverse backgrounds.

As a Director in our Dispute, Contentious and Opinions Valuation team, you will play an integral part in growing and developing the team, business development activities and in valuing our clients’ businesses and assets. Your role will include managing and coordinating client engagements to deliver commercially and technically robust solutions to clients. These may include Expert Determinations of value, Fairness Opinions, Expert Witness and Expert Advice

We are currently looking for a Director in our London office whose responsibilities will include:

  • Business development and contributing to shape the strategic direction of the Valuation Practice
  • Working with the partners and other senior staff to develop our Forensic and Disputes Practice
  • Managing teams to undertake and deliver multiple valuation projects to time and to budget
  • Performing reasoned and clearly presented analysis including experience of reviewing/constructing valuation models to assess value
  • Self-challenging the analysis performed and clearly articulating the rationale for the valuation conclusions reached
  • Understanding, performing and taking responsibility for the client acceptance and engagement risk mitigation processes
  • Gaining a deep understanding of valuation theory and applying this in practice, as supported by relevant qualifications
  • Liaising with clients as and when appropriate
  • Coaching and developing staff from both a technical and personal development perspective
  • Actively pursuing self-learning, on the job training and knowledge from other team members
  • Contributing to broader group initiatives
  • Building internal networks and developing external networks
  • Working effectively in diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution

CONNECT TO YOUR SKILLS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Essential:

Experience of managing teams and coordinating client engagements to deliver commercially and technically robust solutions to clients. Including:

  • Broad base of commercial business valuation experience and displaying deep technical expertise applicable for business valuation across a wide range of sectors and geographies;
  • Experience preparing and supporting Expert Determination, Expert Witness and Expert Advisory services. Previous oral testimony is desirable but not essential;
  • Willingness to become a testifying witness in High Court (or equivalent in other jurisdictions) and Arbitration;
  • Exceptional analytical, oral and written communication skills with a robust attention for detail
  • Ability to take complex analysis and to present and communicate it in a concise and clear manner
  • Show initiative to learn, ask questions and accomplish delegated tasks accurately
  • Client focus, with ability to work quickly and establish effective working relationships
  • Strong academic record (2:1 Bachelor degree, or equivalent, in a relevant subject as a minimum)
  • Logical and methodical approach to problem solving
  • Project management and organisational skills
  • The self-confidence/enthusiasm to be involved in business development activities
  • Willingness to travel, as required
  • Professional accreditation (e.g. an ACA, MBA, CFA or similar)
