Responsibilities:
The Director of Data Engineering and Insights is responsible for leading the strategic direction, development, and optimization of the segment’s data infrastructure, integration architecture, and business intelligence capabilities. This role ensures alignment with enterprise data governance standards and delivers scalable, high-performance data solutions that empower insight generation, enhance decision-making, drive operational efficiency, and support innovation across the organization.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrates strong intellectual curiosity and determination to solve complex business challenges using data, technology, and advanced analytics.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience, with a track record of increasing responsibility in data engineering or analytics-focused roles.
  • Deep understanding of data governance, data quality management, and compliance frameworks.
  • Proficient in SQL (SSMS), SSRS, Tableau, Power BI, and Microsoft Excel; experience with Python or other programming languages is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining data pipelines and solutions on the Azure Cloud platform, including ETL/ELT tools such as Databricks; experience with on-premises tools like SSIS is also valuable.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business insights.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with experience applying Agile methodologies to manage multiple priorities and initiatives.
  • Familiarity with predictive analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence; hands-on experience is preferred.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Actuarial Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical or quantitative field is required.
  • Experience in the commercial insurance industry, including exposure to reinsurance data and treaty structures.
