JOB SUMMARY

As a Director Data Engineer for our Enterprise Data Analytics team, you’ll be joining a purpose-driven team aligned with our mission: Together We Create Healthier Lives. In this role, primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop and executed a data engineering strategy aligned with enterprise goals and digital transformation;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define a unified data architecture and scalable roadmap;
  • Promote innovation through emerging technologies and platform enhancements;
  • Establish governance frameworks and best practices for data consistency and compliance;
  • Architecte enterprise-scale data platforms using Microsoft Azure tools (Data Factory, Databricks, Data Lake, Event Hubs);
  • Lead advanced Databricks implementations for large-scale processing, ML workflows, and real-time analytics;
  • Enable actionable insights via semantic models and Power BI enterprise reporting;
  • Built robust data pipelines for high-volume ingestion, transformation, and distribution.
  • Direct a high-performing team, ensured 99.9%+ uptime, and drove automation and DevOps for operational efficiency.

KEY ELEMENTS

We are looking for the following minimum qualifications for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mathematics, or related fields;
  • 7+ years of experience in technology leadership, with a proven track record of building, mentoring, and scaling high-performing engineering teams;
  • 7+ years of hands-on Data engineering experience;
  • 7+ years of data warehousing and ETL tools experience;
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in information technology;
  • Deep expertise in database and data architecture, with demonstrated experience in designing robust dimensional data models;
  • Experience with Finance Reporting Modernization;
  • Experience with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce or SAP.

Role Specific Information:

  • Location: Remote (from one of our Canadian site);
  • Annual bonus based on performance;
  • Schedule: Daytime between Monday and Friday;
  • Permanent position as of the hiring, full-time 37.5hrs per week.

About Safety AssessmentCharles River is committed to helping our partners expedite their preclinical drug development with exceptional safety assessment services, state-of-the-art facilities and expert regulatory guidance. From individual specialty toxicology and IND enabling studies to tailored packages and total laboratory support, our deeply experienced team can design and execute programs that anticipate challenges and avoid roadblocks for a smooth, efficient journey to market.
