Overview of the Role The Director, Data Management will establish and mature Mutual’s data governance and master data management (MDM) capabilities, creating a trusted “single source of truth” for key business data. This role sets standards that improve data quality, consistency, lineage, and documentation across systems, partnering with various Core Functions within the organization, and business leaders to ensure data is acquired, stored, integrated, and used securely and compliantly. Responsibilities Data Strategy, Governance & Standards Set the data management strategy and roadmap aligned to business priorities. Establish governance policies, standards, and decision flows (ownership, stewardship, escalation). Maintain authoritative data sources for key business entities Partner with Compliance and Systems on data security, privacy, and retention requirements. Master Data Management & Stewardship Own the master data model and core data standards. Define critical data elements, ownership, and business definitions. Maintain the data dictionary and business glossary. Create practical guides and training to support data stewardship. Data Quality & Integrity Implement data quality rules, monitoring, and remediation workflows. Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of data issues. Establish KPIs and reporting for data health and quality trends. Data Architecture, Integration & Lineage Define mapping rules and transformation logic for integrations and reporting. Ensure source-to-target documentation and basic lineage transparency. Partner with Technology to improve pipeline reliability and reduce manual work. Vendor & Platform Management Manage data vendors, feeds, and data-related SLAs. Coordinate issue resolution across internal teams and external partners. Recommend tooling/platform enhancements to improve scale and reliability. Leadership & Enablement Align stakeholders on priorities, standards, and governance decisions. Communicate data concepts clearly to technical and business audiences. Define capability needs and operating routines to support future team growth. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years in data management, governance, MDM, data quality, or related roles. Experience establishing cross-functional standards, frameworks, or operating models. Knowledge & Skills Strong knowledge of governance, stewardship, MDM, and data quality concepts. Experience with data modeling, mapping, definitions, and documentation. SQL proficiency preferred; familiarity with data integrations is a plus. Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and process discipline. Strong stakeholder management and ability to drive alignment. Bonus: Financial services and/or regulated environment experience.
