Together we shape thriving communities, public spaces, places and economies. * EOI for a senior leader to shape design outcomes across heritage and urban planning in a complex, high‑profile environment. * EOI – Temporary full-time to December 2026 * Based in The Rocks / Sydney with flexible working supported * TRP from $232,239 including superannuation   We’re looking for people across the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to express interest in a Director Design & Place opportunity within Placemaking NSW. Placemaking NSW creates, manages, and cares for many of Sydney’s iconic harbourside locations including The Rocks, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour, Luna Park Reserve, White Bay Power Station, Ballast Point Park, and waterfront areas in Pyrmont. These special places comprise more than 100 heritage buildings, as well as unique venues such as the Chinese Garden of Friendship and The Cutaway along with major event facilities at the International Convention Centre. This is an opportunity to shape how places across our precincts are designed, planned and experienced - leading work that balances community needs, heritage, design excellence and long-term sustainability. You’ll operate in complex, high‑profile environments, bringing together policy, design and delivery to create practical, place-based outcomes. Working across government, industry and community, you’ll guide teams, influence decisions and turn strategic intent into visible impact on the ground. You’ll navigate ambiguity, competing priorities and risk with confidence, setting clear direction and maintaining momentum on key reforms. Success in the role comes from building strong, trusted relationships, making sound and timely decisions, and keeping a clear focus on outcomes that matter for communities and the State.   About you You’re an experienced senior leader who thrives in complexity and brings a clear, steady approach to delivering place-based outcomes. You combine strong judgement with the ability to lead through change, influence across sectors, and bring people with you.
