Description

NOTE: ELIGIBILITY FOR BENEFITS MAY VARY BY LOCATION.

You contribute to our success. Every role has an impact on our patients’ lives and you have the opportunity to make a difference. We are looking for a dedicated Director Design Engineering like you to be a part of our team.

JOB SUMMARY AND QUALIFICATIONS

We’re seeking a Director, Design Engineering to lead the intersection of design and engineering. This player-coach leadership role is both strategic and hands-on, responsible for defining the vision and establishing best practices for prototyping across the organization. You’ll lead and mentor a team in creating interactive, testable proof-of-concept prototypes that validate ideas early with users and stakeholders. In close collaboration with design, engineering, and product leaders, you’ll drive the development of user-centered experiences across web and mobile platforms, thoughtfully applying AI technologies where they add value. By championing a lean design system approach, you’ll ensure consistency, scalability, and efficiency—accelerating innovation, minimizing risk, and enabling faster, more informed product decisions.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field – Required
  • Master’s degree - Preferred
  • 10+ years in UX, product design, design system or front-end development
  • Mastery in prototyping, design, and front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React), Git and CI/CD
  • Strong experience in building design systems, design tokens, and publishing NPM packages
  • Experience with hands-on AI API development using GenAI
  • Portfolio of work for review will be expected during the interview process

Location/Schedule:

  • Nashville, TN area (near Centennial Park)
  • Onsite: M-F
Responsibilities
  • Bridge design and engineering to deliver functional, testable MVPs faster through interactive, clickable prototypes.
  • Use a hybrid design-engineering approach to reduce time-to-delivery and drive real product impact—not just design output.
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate based on user feedback, product goals, and technical constraints.
  • Leverage AI and emerging technologies to explore smarter, scalable user experiences.
  • Implement and scale a lean design system to ensure consistency, reduce rework, and avoid reinventing the wheel.
  • Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams to shape and validate early-stage concepts.
  • Focus on execution of functional MVPs while ensuring usability and WCAG 2.2 AAA accessibility to accelerate learning and de-risk decisions.
  • Create reusable prototype demo components and patterns to support speed and consistency across teams.
  • Contribute hands-on to front-end development to minimize design handoff friction and reduce the need for excessive documentation and communication with the development team.
