The Alberta-based Director, Development contributes to the overall success, short, and long term growth strategies of Coast Hotels by participating as a member of the Development team and assisting in growing the Coast Hotels' brand through the development of profitable and quality franchise agreements and management contracts. This involves assisting with the maintenance of existing relationships and the development of new relationship with franchise and management ownership groups and other investor stakeholders while contributing to exceptional Ambassador and guest satisfaction. Responsibilities: Business Leadership: responsible to assist in taking the company into the future, establishing goals, seeking opportunities for growth and improvements, anticipating requirements and managing change. Maintains industry and professional expertise by participating actively in industry and professional events Works with the Senior Vice President, Development and BC Based Director, Development to anticipate and identify organizational change initiatives Works with the Senior Vice President, Development and BC Based Director, Development to support the development and clear articulation of the company brand, ensuring Coast Hotels' strategies and initiatives are in line with delivering a brand-consistent product/service Understands and stays current with the world of hotel brands, parent companies, sub brands, new brands, differentiators and more Operational Leadership: Puts in place the systems, structures and discipline practices required to manage results, including planning, prioritizing, providing clear direction, ensuring accountability, monitoring the achievement of financial, quality, safety and other key business measures. Assists in the monitoring of and performing due diligence on management contracts, identifying problem areas, proactively taking charge of solutions, performing property inspections, assessing new buildings for fit and being accountable for functional area performance Monitors systems, structures, and practices to ensure consistency in the delivery of brand and guest experience across properties. Maintains positive relationships with management and franchise ownership groups People & Culture Leadership: Connecting with and engaging Ambassadors in their work and ensuring that Ambassadors feel recognized and valued. Creating a work environment based on Coast Hotels' values. Monitoring performance of franchise partners to ensure compliance with Coast Hotels' People & Culture practices as applicable Builds strong working relationships with managed and franchised operators through visibility, availability, clear and frequent two-way communication, collaboration, and involvement Guest & Community Leadership: leads service excellence in line with the Coast Hotels' Values and brand, maintaining a positive reputation through community contribution Assists in the escalation and resolution of guest complaints received from franchise and managed properties Lives the Coast Hotels' Values and reflects the brand in the community, fostering a positive image of Coast Hotels in the community Skills/Knowledge/Experience: Bachelor's Degree or diploma or equivalent combination of experience and education 5 years of sales and marketing and/or operations experience in the hospitality industry 4 years of experience in hospitality real estate and development is an asset Understanding of hotel franchise brands and markets Clear understanding of technical aspects of business development Capable of managing third party relationships, specifically franchisees Excellent negotiation and diplomatic problem-solving skills to resolve issues across functional areas and between the organization and external parties Highly developed communication (verbal and written) skills with proven ability to present persuasively Strong overall understanding of organizational industry and best practices Exemplifies the Coast Hotels' core values and enjoys working in a culture of accountability Ability to travel Coast Hotels offers a variety of benefits, including competitive wages & benefits, employee discounts, training & development, career advancement opportunities & more!
