Responsibilities

This is a career-defining opportunity for an exceptional leader to manage a high-performing, diverse, and values-based Compliance team based across the APAC region. The key focus of the role is to coach, develop and lead a local team of governance professionals to provide compliance management to regional senior leadership.
The successful candidate will provide and assure an effective ethics and compliance program across the APAC region, ensuring that employees and third parties working on behalf of the business, conduct business in an ethical and compliant manner.

Reporting to the Rio Tinto Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer, you will:

  • Promote a culture of high integrity and ethical decision-making
  • Oversee the operation of the compliance program across the APAC region relating to business integrity, data privacy, anti-trust and economic sanctions
  • Provide compliance training on business integrity, including conflicts of interest and their management, anti-bribery and corruption, sponsorships and donations, benefits, fraud, and third-party risk management
  • Provide compliance advice to support business decisions, community investments, and partnership agreements, including a review of governance structures and contractual arrangements
  • Support the business in identifying and implementing mitigation of compliance related risks
  • Liaise with the Group’s Business Conduct Office on whistleblower allegations and support business integrity related investigations across the region
  • Maintain compliance risk assessments and monitor compliance program effectiveness to ensure the design and operation of the program remains aligned to mitigate current risks
  • Liaise with the Rio Tinto Head of Data Governance & Privacy on Privacy issues and provide advice and support to the business to ensure alignment with Rio Tinto’s Data Privacy Standard, and applicable privacy laws
  • Ensure controls to manage Economic Sanctions compliance are maintained and evolve to align with changes in Sanctions laws
  • Prepare and present compliance reports on the effectiveness of the compliance program, key compliance risks/issues, whistleblower cases and compliance program KPIs to senior leadership
