The pay range is $131,000.00 - $236,000.00 Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. About the Role As Director of Fabric Engineering, you will set the vision and lead a team of fabric engineers to deliver Target’s material-first strategy across apparel and soft home. You’ll drive innovation, sustainability, and technical excellence in textiles and finishing, while ensuring our fabrics meet the highest standards of quality, value, and traceability for use in Targets owned brand products This role requires a strategic leader and change agent who thrives on collaboration, respects diverse perspectives, and can communicate and influence across functions and geographies. You will partner closely with Merchants, Design, Sourcing, Quality teams, Vendors, and Suppliers to shape fabric strategies that enable speed, affordability, flexibility, and differentiation for Target’s Owned Brands. Core Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Drive the material-first strategy to deliver innovation, quality, sustainability, and profitability. Engineer fabric solutions that advance Target Forward goals, standardize yarns, optimize fabrics, and unlock speed, flexibility, and cost efficiency. Lead tariff and duty engineering to maximize competitiveness. Build brand-right, trend-relevant fabric palettes in partnership with Design, Merchants, and global suppliers and vendors Industry Engagement Develop and expand a strategic network with mills, vendors, academia, and industry associations. Position Target as an industry leader in textiles, sustainability, and supply chain innovation. Team & Culture Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing, inclusive, and globally minded team. Foster a culture of respect, collaboration, and continuous learning. Champion change by modernizing ways of working and expanding organizational capabilities. Cross-Functional Influence Act as a trusted partner and influencer across the enterprise, aligning diverse stakeholders on priorities. Qualifications 15+ years in fabric engineering, textile development, sourcing, or supply chain leadership (raw-materials expertise strongly preferred). Deep knowledge of textiles, fibers, finishing, and raw materials supply chains. Strong understanding of design, product development, and sustainability practices. Experience leading culturally diverse teams and fostering inclusion. Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, resources, and global partnerships. Excellent communication, influencing, and problem-solving skills. This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
