EDUCATION

  • Degree in a related field of study such as Engineering, Architecture or Building Technology;
  • A professional certification in real estate management e.g., B.O.M.A. (Building Owners & Managers Association), R.P.A. (Real Property Administrator) or F.M.A. (Facilities Management Administrator), Business Administration and/or Professional designation in Project Management Professional (PMP) is an asset;
  • Equivalents will be considered.

EXPERIENCE

  • 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in complex building facilities which includes leading team(s) while managing the operations and maintenance of a large portfolio of Crown-owned facilities;
  • Experience negotiating and managing service contracts;
  • Experience leading a diverse team of facility-related professionals;
  • Experience in leading, procuring and managing capital projects from inception to closeout
  • Facility Services’ experience in a museum-setting is an asset

KNOWLEDGE

  • Awareness of Ingenium’s (and the Government of Canada’s) real property and facilities management practices, environmental asset management, contracting and procurement frameworks and policies as well as the role of central agencies related to Ingenium;
  • Knowledge of the operation of complex building systems and their related maintenance and repairs;
  • Knowledge of project management and program management accompanied with savvy financial/budget management
  • Knowledge of life cycle costing principles, preventive maintenance approaches and cost estimating;
  • Knowledge of the policies and guidelines governing the modification, repair, care and use of heritage properties;
  • Knowledge of Transport Canada Regulations concerning airport management;
  • Knowledge and experience of organizational effectiveness and operations management, as well as implementing best practices;
  • Knowledge of Quality Control and Quality Assurance within the context of project delivery;
  • Knowledge of related legislations, codes, policies, and directives to successfully delivery on program requirements on behalf of Ingenium which include but is not limited to facility related legislations; building, electrical and other related codes governing facility management; Canada Labour Code and regulations and requirements of Occupational Health and Safety and of hazardous materials; Construction industry standards and the Financial Administration Act;
  • Business and management principles and practices including strategic planning, talent management, and financial management and the ability to lead and develop staff within a financial and evaluation environment.
Responsibilities

The Director, Facilities Services at Ingenium is responsible for leading the strategic and operational direction of the Facilities Services team. This hands-on leadership role is actively involved in guiding the effective planning, daily operation, and maintenance of Ingenium’s physical infrastructure, including engineering, buildings, mechanical and electrical systems, preventative maintenance, and grounds—while fostering a client-focused culture rooted in service excellence, responsiveness, and that are critical to the daily operations and the provisions of protection of the National scientific and technological collections and herds at Ingenium. This position is responsible for all Ingenium’s facilities and building assets including a state-of-the-art building housing priceless artefacts, leased spaces, and multiple locations across the National Capital Region in support of the needs and programs of Ingenium.

The role also supports a sense of belonging by creating physical spaces that reflect and respond to the diverse needs of Ingenium’s visitors, stakeholders and staff, including the meaningful integration of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being into site planning and design.
Acting as a strategic and operational advisor to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Facilities Services contributes to capital planning initiatives and ensures alignment with Ingenium’s broader mission and vision. Responsibilities also include managing complex service contracts, ensuring compliance with health, safety, building code and regulatory standards for public buildings, laboratories and office spaces, including Transport Canada airport operations, and advancing policies and procedures that promote risk awareness and safety. The building operations and maintenance are critical to the safekeeping of the national collection, safety of the visiting public and staff accommodations and safety of animals at the farm. Through a combination of operational excellence, inclusive leadership, and forward-thinking strategy, the Director plays a direct role in shaping and executing a sustainable, inclusive, and responsive environment.
