Strategic Finance is a high-impact, high-visibility internal consulting group tackling some of the hardest questions within the organization.   The Role:    The Director, Finance plays a critical role in Providence’s healthcare transformation journey by providing financial, strategic, and economic analyses that support diversified growth opportunities and long‑term sustainability. As part of Strategic Finance, a high‑impact internal consulting function, this leader tackles some of the organization’s most complex and consequential questions.   The Director is responsible for financial oversight of assigned ministries, including monitoring performance, variance reporting, productivity and supply chain targets, and participation in ministry‑level management meetings. This role serves as a key liaison to Accounts Payable and Payroll, supporting managers and senior leaders across the ministries.   As a member of the regional finance team, the Director supports development of ministry budgets, assists senior ministry leadership in achieving annual and long‑term strategies, facilitates approved capital projects, and leads special projects at both the ministry and regional levels. Primary responsibilities also include dashboard development, achievement of internal audit recommendations, review of monthly financial statements, and close partnership with the PSJH accounting team to ensure accurate representation of operational and clinical economics.   What You'll Do:   Strategic Finance & Advanced Analytics * Lead and develop advanced financial analyses to support strategic initiatives, capital investment, revenue diversification, and divestiture opportunities on behalf of the CFO; projects are inherently complex, high‑risk/high‑reward, and material to the system. * Design and execute market and competitive analyses to support strategy, business development, and long‑range financial planning. * Design and construct sophisticated financial and economic analyses, including:  * Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) decomposition and optimization * Product, customer, and portfolio profitability * Scenario modeling and competitive analysis * Prepare and deliver actionable insights in written, graphical, and verbal formats to inform and empower senior leadership. * Connect strategic options and decisions with financial impact analysis, including explicit articulation of risks of the status quo. Internal Consulting & Executive Partnership * Provide consulting services to system operations, clinical programs, and functional leaders to identify opportunities that improve financial performance and/or mission return. * Develop and maintain strong working relationships with a broad range of internal and external leaders and stakeholders across the organization. * Model executive‑ready communication and stakeholder management; review and elevate work products to ensure clarity, accuracy, and actionability. People Leadership & Capability Building * Provide people leadership for the Strategic Finance team, including hiring and onboarding, coaching and mentoring, performance management, and career development. * Establish clear team goals, priorities, and operating cadence (1:1s, team meetings, project reviews) that support accountability and professional growth. * Build team capability by setting analytic standards, providing feedback on work product, and developing repeatable tools, templates, and training to scale best practices across FP&A and strategic analysis. * Identify and develop future leaders through succession planning, stretch assignments, and continuous feedback aligned to organizational needs. Ministry & Regional Financial Oversight * Assist the Service Area CFO, senior operational leaders, and executives with financial oversight of assigned ministries. * Monitor and report on ministry financial performance to ensure achievement of financial targets. * Support preparation of accurate financial statements, including contractual analysis, accruals, and statistical validation tied to operational and clinical services. * Collaborate with regional finance partners on budgeting, strategic planning, and productivity management. * Lead monthly financial reviews with ministry administrators and support staffing matrix implementation using benchmarking data. * Lead special projects and collaborate across finance teams to advance system‑wide initiatives. Mission & Organizational Leadership * Promote understanding of the finance role across the organization and broader community. * Communicate clearly, regularly, and effectively across all levels of the organization. * Perform all duties in alignment with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Providence St. Joseph Health.   What You'll Bring:   Education & Credentials * Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. * Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (preferred). * HFMA or FACHE (preferred). Leadership & Experience * 8+ years in a leadership role or capacity. * 10+ years of closely related financial or analytic experience. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position.
