As a key member of the Finance team, the Director of Finance & Treasury Operations has two overriding responsibilities, first to safeguard the financial assets of the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) as part of Treasury responsibilities and second to provide oversight of the annual budget, monthly reporting & Analysis, and business analytics as needed to support the business lines. This position will leverage acquired knowledge of end-to-end NFPA business processes to ensure NFPA is set up for financial success in the short and long term. In addition, this position will manage, prepare, administer, and direct the control of the budget and credit policies. This position will also review and approve recommendations for financial planning and control, provide relevant fiscal information to executive management team to influence business decision-making, monitor division and department adherence to approved budgets and develop and manage staff in both the Financial Planning & Analysis team and the Credit & Collections team. Primary Duties/Responsibilities Direct and manage the development, implementation, distribution and presentation of the annual budget and forecast process to ensure effective allocation of resources to meet the organization’s annual and multi-year goals. Establish, track, and analyze company performance in relation to key performance metrics to identify variances and prepare reports to ensure Sr. Management has complete, accurate and timely information to assist them in making informed decisions so the appropriate action can be taken. Develop detailed financial analysis, interpret financial and non-financial data and trends, establish management reports and analysis and routinely conduct ad hoc analysis to improve organization performance in support of the CFO Provide insightful business analytics that highlight performance and risk for new business opportunities. Function as an advisor to business units and provide leadership, guidance and expert advice to management or other groups on technical, systems or process-related topics. Apply logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and perform detailed financial analysis in support of and recommending sound business decisions. Analyze and monitor financial results of the Association’s for revenues, expenses and project costs compared to budget and forecast. Oversee Credit & Collection operations and credit policy for improvements and changes in business/marketing practices. Ensure adequate controls and security procedures for payment card processing in accordance with relevant legislation and industry guidelines. Manage NFPA’s Cash and short term investments opportunities in a prudent manner to preserve capital and liquidity. Assist the CFO with the management of the General Reserves to achieve benchmark returns within the Investment Policy guidelines. Responsible for portfolio rebalancing on a quarterly basis. Lead, develop and manage direct reports for both the Finance and Credit & Collection departments. Support the teams’ professional growth. Requirements Experience: 15 or more years of related experience. Education: Master’s degree in business administration or finance Licenses: CTP or CPA preferred Skills: Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to independently assume responsibility for the overall needs of the Accounting and Finance Department.
