Job Summary: The Director of FP&A plays a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy and operational effectiveness of the organization. This leader is responsible for overseeing financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and strategic analysis across the business, with a strong focus on partnering with operational, commercial, and executive teams to drive performance and sustainable growth. This role leads and develops a high-performing FP&A team, fostering a culture of business partnership, analytical rigor, and continuous improvement. The Director will own the development and refinement of revenue and cost models, enabling deeper insights into profitability, efficiency, and investment decisions.   Reports to: Vice President Finance & Accounting   Essential Job Duties: * Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership across operations, sales, maintenance, and sustainability. Translate financial data into actionable insights that inform strategic decisions and operational improvements. * Build and mentor a high-impact FP&A team. Promote collaboration, accountability, and professional growth while elevating the team's capabilities in financial modeling, reporting, and business support. * Lead the annual budgeting process, quarterly forecasts, and long-range planning. Ensure alignment with strategic goals and operational realities. Drive scenario planning and sensitivity analysis to support agile decision-making. * Develop and maintain robust financial models that accurately reflect revenue across lines of business, cost drivers, and operational metrics. Use these models to support pricing strategies, margin analysis, and resource allocation. * Oversee the creation of executive dashboards, variance analyses, and board-level reporting. Ensure timely and accurate performance insights that support transparency and accountability. * Guide ROI, cash flow, and payback modeling for capital investments and strategic initiatives. Partner with Fleet and M&A teams to evaluate acquisition opportunities and capital deployment. * Champion the standardization and automation of FP&A processes and tools. Drive efficiency, data integrity, and scalability to support future growth. * Provide financial leadership for strategic projects including M&A, sustainability programs, and operational optimization efforts. Collaborate with accounting on complex areas such as landfill accounting and management estimates. Scope of Responsibility: The Director of FP&A leads financial planning, analysis, and reporting, partnering with operational, commercial, and executive teams to drive strategic decision-making and sustainable growth. This role oversees a high-performing FP&A team, develops and maintains financial models, and provides timely insights through executive dashboards and reporting. Key responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, capital investment analysis, and supporting strategic initiatives such as M&A and operational optimization, while mentoring the team to strengthen analytical capabilities, business partnering, and process improvements. Qualifications Knowledge and Skill Requirements: * Exceptional ability to interpret complex financial data and operational metrics, transforming them into clear, actionable insights that drive strategic decisions and business performance. Skilled in identifying trends, risks, and opportunities across multiple dimensions of the business. * Proven experience leading and developing high-performing finance teams. Able to inspire, coach, and build capabilities within FP&A to support business partnering, analytical excellence, and continuous improvement. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and credibility across departments. Adept at partnering with operations, sales, maintenance, sustainability, and executive leadership to align financial strategies with business goals. * Demonstrated success in driving process enhancements, implementing automation, and managing change in fast-paced, evolving environments. Skilled in designing scalable financial processes and tools to support growth and efficiency. * Experience preparing and presenting financial reports and performance insights for executive leadership, boards, lenders, and investors. Able to tailor messaging to diverse audiences and support strategic storytelling with data. * Familiarity with ERP systems such as Sage, and advanced proficiency in data visualization and reporting tools like Power BI. Experience with financial planning platforms such as Adaptive Insights or equivalent. * Strong modeling skills in Excel and other platforms, with the ability to build and maintain dynamic revenue, cost, and investment models. Capable of supporting scenario planning, ROI analysis, and long-range forecasting. Education & Experience: * Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. * Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles (FP&A, corporate finance, financial analysis, investment banking). * Experience in private equity environments is advantageous. * Experience in waste management, recycling, manufacturing, logistics, or asset-intensive industries preferred. * Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statements, and business performance metric * Data management experience. * Expert financial modeling, especially reading into assumptions and calculations developed by others, finding logical flaws and strength of design. * Strong project management skills. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. * Analytical, strategic and detail oriented. * Financial analysis and organizational. * Ability to lead a team and drive results. Physical Demands & Work Environment: * Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. * Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. * Regularly required to talk and hear, both in person and by phone or web meetings. * Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. * Ability to read and interpret data on a computer screen or printed documents. * Work is performed in a typical office environment with moderate noise levels, in a climate-controlled environment with heating and air conditioning. * Potential for remote work or hybrid work arrangement. * May be required to lift up to 30 pounds.
