The Mahopac Central School District seeks to fill the following probationary position:

DIRECTOR FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION – DISTRICTWIDE

The Mahopac Central School District is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and student-focused educational leader to serve as the Director for Special Education. This 12 month position is directly responsible for the overall planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs and student support services district-wide. The director will ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations and foster inclusive practices that support academic and social-emotional success for all students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid NYS administrative certification- SDA or SDL
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in special education, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Thorough knowledge of special education laws, regulations, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and best practices
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with creative ideas, the ability to collaborate with others, and provide a visible presence throughout the district
Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all special education programs and related services (Pre K–12) including out-of-district placements
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate special education staff, including school psychologists, social workers, related service providers, special education teachers, special education administrative team, and departmental clerical support
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and State laws, including IDEA and Section 504, grant applications, preschool special education, and Medicaid
  • Collaborate with building administrators to develop and implement inclusive instructional practices that support students and staff
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans and chair CSE and 504 meetings as needed
  • Serve as the district liaison to external agencies, including the Department of Education and mental health providers
  • Work collaboratively to build a comprehensive, thoughtful budget that strengthens programs and offerings to students
  • Lead and/or coordinate professional development initiatives for special education and general education staff including Teaching Assistants, Teacher Aides
  • Monitor data on student outcomes and use it to inform program improvements
