JOB SUMMARY

The Director, Global Trade Compliance is a key role as part of the Global Distribution organization. In this role you will lead the BioMarin’s global trade compliance program, providing strategic direction and operational leadership. Establish and maintain management systems and subject matter expertise to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing global import and export activities, and mitigate risks associated with these activities.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
  • In lieu of above, other undergraduate degree plus continuing education in the logistics or extended supply chain management field required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related curriculum with 10+ years of experience in global trade compliance.
  • Previous experience leading a global team.
  • Thorough understanding of technology tools, including trade compliance systems and ERP systems, with a proven record of implementing scalable compliance solutions (systems, procedures, and processes).
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to anticipate problems and take proactive actions to make the company’s Trade Compliance stronger and more efficient.
  • Thorough knowledge of trade and trade compliance issues, including export controls and import regulations, customs valuation, classification methodologies, origin, and licensing determinations. Ability to research complex theories of law in trade compliance to outline possible solutions and practical actions.
  • Proven ability to lead change initiatives and drive improvements within and across functions which enable compliance and mitigate risk
  • Ability to effectively work autonomously and independently
  • Supervisor Responsibility: There will be personnel supervisor responsibility associated with this role.

    The salary range for this position is: $164,400 to $225,000. BioMarin considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership in the execution of global trade compliance, ensuring adherence to all import/export laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement a global trade compliance strategy that aligns with company goals.
  • Manage a global team of trade compliance professionals, focusing on talent development, and program continuity.
  • Maintain and implement comprehensive global trade compliance policies and procedures, encompassing Export Controls, Licensing, Due Diligence, Import Regulations, Sanctions, and other relevant regulations.
  • Maintains awareness of evolving external factors and effectively analyses their impact on the business.
  • Oversee import/export registrations, permits, and licenses. Ensure accurate import/export filings and maintain quality control.
  • Assess and mitigate trade compliance risks through regular evaluations and proposed mitigation activities.
  • Conduct compliance reviews and audits, recommending and implementing improvements to close gaps.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and manage interactions with trade-related government agencies.
  • Lead cross functional initiatives to assess, mitigate and communicate risks or issues associated with Global Trade policies.
