The Opportunity
Are you a strategic leader with a passion for enhancing the employee experience? SAIT is seeking a Director, HR Talent and Total Rewards to steer our strategic vision and ensure operational excellence in Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, and Talent Development. Ensuring collaboration across these functions to create a valuable employee lifecycle is essential. Providing strategic advice to senior leaders on programs and initiatives that engage and manage the workforce is a key responsibility of this role.
This senior leadership role is crucial for aligning our Human Resources (HR) strategies with SAIT’s overall vision and employee value proposition. Strong leadership, superior communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain diverse interpersonal relationships are crucial for this role, enabling impactful and effective teamwork.
The Role
Collaborate with HR’s Senior Leadership Team to develop and execute HR strategic goals in support of SAIT’s vision.
Lead the Communities of Expertise team, ensuring alignment with strategic plans.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), service level agreements (SLAs), and goals to measure program effectiveness.
Collaborate with executive leadership on long-term HR and organizational development plans.
Stay updated on industry trends to keep SAIT at the forefront of talent management.
Foster a diverse and inclusive environment, promoting equity and belonging across all HR functions and SAIT.
Execute SAIT’s employee value proposition, enhancing the employee lifecycle to support an engaged and motivated workforce.
Ensure that the programs in the portfolio align with and consult the collective bargaining agreements, addressing union-related concerns as needed.
Represent HR on various cross-institutional committees.
Oversee the design, implementation, and management of Total Rewards programs, including compensation, classification, benefits, pension, and abilities management.
Ensure Total Rewards programs are competitive, equitable, and aligned with strategic goals.
Develop communication strategies to convey Total Rewards programs effectively to employees.
Oversee the Talent Acquisition function, ensuring the recruitment of high-caliber candidates for academic and non-academic positions.
Support innovative talent sourcing strategies focused on community and belonging.
Collaborate with department heads to understand hiring needs and prioritize recruitment.
Oversee the Talent Development function, including training and development, talent programs, employee experience, and recognition initiatives.
Develop strategies for career growth, skill enhancement, performance enablement, and succession planning.
Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and development.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; a master’s degree is an asset.
CPHR or other relevant professional designations are an asset.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience, with a focus on Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, and Talent Development, with 5+ years in leadership.
Proven leadership experience, preferably in a post-secondary education environment.
Experience in a complex multi-union environment is an asset.
Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building abilities.
Proficient in project and change management, with the ability to manage multiple large-scale projects.
Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a high-performing team.
Strong collaborative approach with partners across the organization.
