GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Chief Digital Officer, the Director of Information Technology is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and management of the museum’s technology infrastructure. This position leads the IT team, which includes systems engineers, help desk personnel, and any additional roles as determined by organizational needs. The Director ensures the reliability and security of both cloud-based and on-premises systems, evaluates and modernizes existing platforms, and develops strategic initiatives to support institutional goals. Responsibilities include supervising internal staff, managing external consultants, overseeing budgeting and resource allocation, and coordinating closely with stakeholders across the museum to align technology solutions with operational and strategic priorities. This role plays a key part in developing and implementing a long-term strategic IT plan in collaboration with the Chief Digital Officer.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in information systems management or related field. Ten (10) years of related job experience in the information technology sector, including five (5) years of executive leadership and people management, and ability to understand new technology and its potential application. Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

• Demonstrated organizational skills to plan, manage, prioritize, and complete multiple on-going projects to meet deadlines and goals.
• Knowledge of scripting and IT automation techniques.
• Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Azure AD, Office 365, and endpoint management.
• Experience with cloud computing services, Amazon Web Services and Windows Azure preferred.
• Experience with key user-facing technologies used by the DIA — Digital Asset Management System (Widen), Information management (TMS), CRM/Fundraising and Donor Management (Raiser’s Edge), and Office 365.
• Thorough understanding of enterprise network management, including IP switching and routing, firewalls and network security, authentication standards and practices, etc.
• Must be proficient in the latest version of Microsoft Office 365.
• Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
• Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive, and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork. This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Manage the department, determining priorities and goals, scheduling and annual budget for all sections ensuring that department resources and staff support the museum’s strategic goals and annual museum-wide goals, and that those goals are met on schedule and within budget.
• Recruit, mentor, develop and successfully manage a team to achieve the strategic objectives and the present and future needs of the department in alignment with the museum’s annual priorities and strategic vision.
• Create a collaborative work environment by using a performance support process including goal setting, feedback, and development.
• Develop thorough understanding of existing IT infrastructure and implement solutions to maintain and improve as needed.
• Oversee network and systems management, monitoring, security, backup, and other key infrastructure functions, working with internal staff and external consultants as required. Develop documentation to support ongoing IT operations.
• Manage onsite work by vendors and IT staff.
• Identify long-term technology needs in collaboration with the Chief Digital Officer.
• Provide governance and policies for the appropriate use of technology and to ensure the proper application of information security to protect the DIA.
• Apply the appropriate project management methods to ensure projects are on time and on budget.
