Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As the interim Director, Learning & Development, you will be responsible for leading the Talent Development function as coverage through a maternity leave. The L&D team is in the midst of a strategic shift — moving from a reactive, training-focused service model to a strategic business function grounded in performance consulting, systems thinking, and capability building.
You’ll be responsible for maintaining this momentum, working closely with our People team, business stakeholders, and external partners to keep initiatives on track and uphold the expectations we’ve set for how L&D partners with the business. As you step in to lead a high-performing talent-development team, your focus will be to ensure initiatives remain aligned with business outcomes, and to guide prioritization across the function.
This role requires executive presence, systems thinking, and the ability to lead with both autonomy and precision.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, you will:

  • Lead the L&D function and oversee the execution of a clearly defined strategy centered on performance, capability, and business alignment
  • Act as the senior L&D representative in executive and cross-functional conversations, reinforcing a consulting-first posture with stakeholders
  • Oversee progress across active leadership, learning, and enablement initiatives — ensuring alignment to goals and removing roadblocks as needed
  • Set direction and decision criteria across in-flight initiatives, while trusting your team to own delivery
  • Serve as a sounding board and strategic coach to your team, helping them grow while advancing the work
  • Partner with business leaders to assess needs, challenge assumptions, and identify the right solutions to solve for performance and knowledge gaps.
  • Act as the senior point of contact for learning across the business, maintaining alignment and clarity of scope
  • Maintain governance over budgets, intake, project workflows, and vendor partnerships
  • Ensure all progress, decisions, and context are well documented to support a seamless transition for the team.
