You will play a vital role in shaping the future of medical education at Curtin, working collaboratively to maintain high standards and reflect contemporary, evidence-based practices.

ABOUT US

The Curtin Medical School comprises the Disciplines of Medicine, Medical Radiation Science, Pharmacy, Laboratory Medicine and Biomedical Science. It is one of four schools within the Faculty of Health Sciences, alongside two affiliated research institutes (the Curtin Medical Research Institute and the Curtin enAble Institute). The flagship Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program commenced in 2017, and is delivered predominantly in state-of-the-art clinical teaching and simulation facilities on the University’s Bentley campus.
The MBBS is the only undergraduate Medical degree in Western Australia, and now enrols up to 120 new students each year, with preferential selection of students with a rural, Indigenous Australian and/or other disadvantaged background. Its unique curriculum and dynamic clinical placement program is driven by a future-focussed approach to medicine. In addition, the School has over 10 affiliated metropolitan hospital placement sites, along with health campuses in Midland (Perth) and Kalgoorlie (Goldfields, WA), is a member of the Rural Clinical School WA, and has close links with metropolitan and rural primary care and other community-based healthcare providers.

As the Director, Medical Education, you will:

  • Lead and manage a dedicated team to ensure the MBBS and BMedSci (Hons) programs are delivered with academic excellence, focussing on curriculum design, learning and teaching strategies, assessment and evaluation.
  • Chair the Discipline of Medicine Education Committee, which oversees the quality and integrity of the MBBS and BMedSci(Hons) curricula.
  • Drive course accreditation processes, liaising with the Australian Medical Council and ensuring compliance with national standards and in keeping with international best practice.
  • Work closely with relevant colleagues to maintain robust internal monitoring and evaluation for quality improvement of the MBBS and BMedSci(Hons) and the student experience.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship in medical education to Academic and Professional staff, supporting their professional development and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the integration of innovative educational technologies to enhance the delivery and experience of the MBBS and BMedSci(Hons) programs.
  • Represent the Discipline of Medicine on University and national committees and advocacy groups, contributing to broader educational and health initiatives.
  • Work closely with the MBBS Course Coordinator (Director, Medical Program), Year Coordinators, Assessment Lead, Admissions Lead, Domain Leads and Director of Research (Medicine) to ensure seamless integration of educational practices across the program
