The primary purpose of this position is to lead BIO membership-related marketing, recruiting, and outreach by creating compelling campaigns that resonate with biotech organizations and showcase BIO’s unparalleled value. The Director, Member Engagement will develop data-driven marketing strategies and tailored content that expands BIO’s membership base and deepens engagement. Goals will be achieved by orchestrating multi-channel marketing campaigns that captivate and convert high-value prospects, cultivating relationships with both established and emerging biotech companies, and analyzing market trends to refine our value proposition and stay ahead of member needs. This role will work collaboratively across BIO departments to understand the evolution and future of biotechnology policy and craft targeted materials and outreach that drives membership engagement and retention. • Develop and implement an annual membership marketing outreach plan and schedule. Provide timely status updates to leadership on membership activities and marketing campaign performance.
  • In consultation with BIO policy, science, and advocacy departments, stay informed on policy activity and biotechnology industry trends that are relevant to current members and potential member companies. Develop fresh and thoughtful industry-specific content based on these conversations.
  • Staying abreast of marketing and industry trends, identify and advise on new avenues for member engagement (i.e. social platforms, advertising opportunities, BIO website updates, etc.).
  • Develop, implement, and maintain annual renewal correspondence and follow-up cadence to optimize renewal outcomes for different tiers and types of member organizations.
  • Engage directly and independently with members and prospective members, providing timely responses to questions and inquiries about membership benefits and value proposition.
  • Support senior leadership on membership-related activities and outreach, including developing messaging, coordinating presentation content, and organizing follow-up materials.
  • Utilize Marketo and other email resources to engage with current/potential members regularly and track reach and effectiveness of marketing campaigns.
  • Oversee in-person and virtual membership marketing activities at BIO and non-BIO events, including managing booth presence and marketing collateral.
  • Accurately track relevant department expenses and create budget projections, including reporting, year-over-year comparisons, and forecasting.
  • Participate in and support new member orientation process, including regular review and refinement of orientation materials. Serve as primary backup for new member orientation.
