About the Job The Director of Accounting role at Salient provides an opportunity to lead and strengthen the company’s accounting function. This role will partner closely with Executive Leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong accounting processes, and support financial visibility across the organization. A successful Director of Accounting will bring a hands-on, process-driven approach, with the ability to lead a team while ensuring consistency, structure, and accountability across the accounting function. Job Description The Director of Accounting is responsible for leading the company’s accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintaining effective processes and controls across the organization. This individual will report to Executive Leadership and will oversee the accounting team, while also working cross-functionally to support financial visibility and operational consistency. This role requires a balance of technical accounting expertise, process ownership, and team leadership. Accounting Operations & Close · Managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and consistency. · Overseeing general ledger activity, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. · Ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, including SaaS revenue recognition (ASC 606). · Maintaining and enhancing accounting policies and procedures. Process Improvement & Systems · Evaluating current accounting workflows and implementing improvements to increase efficiency and reduce risk. · Standardizing processes across billing, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and close. · Optimizing the use of NetSuite and related systems, including integrations with Salesforce and Paylocity. · Developing and maintaining documentation for key accounting processes and controls. Team Leadership & Development · Managing and developing a team of accounting professionals.. · Providing coaching, training, and performance management. · Establishing clear roles, responsibilities, and expectations across the team. · Creating a culture of ownership, accuracy, and accountability. Financial Reporting & Visibility · Preparing and delivering accurate and timely financial statements. · Supporting internal and external reporting requirements, including investor reporting. · Partnering with Executive Leadership to enhance reporting clarity and usefulness. · Ensuring consistency and integrity of financial data across reports and systems. Audit & Compliance · Leading external audit processes and serving as the primary point of contact for auditors. · Maintaining audit-ready documentation and supporting schedules. · Strengthening internal controls and ensuring adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements. Financial Planning Support · Supporting budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with the CEO and leadership. · Improving visibility into cash flow and financial performance. · Providing financial insights to support operational decision-making. Requirements Required Experience · 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities. · Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. · Extensive experience with NetSuite, including integrations, configuration, optimization, and reporting. · Demonstrated experience in a SaaS or subscription-based business environment. · Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition (ASC 606). · Proven experience managing accounting processes and close cycles. · Experience managing and developing accounting teams. Required Skills · Excellent written communication and presentation skills. · Strong attention to detail and organizational ability. · Ability to identify process gaps and implement effective solutions. · Ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights. · Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities. Preferred Experience · CPA certification. · Experience in a mid-sized organization (50–300 employees). · Experience supporting audit processes and investor reporting. · Experience working with integrated systems such as Salesforce and Paylocity.
