About the Role: The Director of Accounting will lead and oversee the accounting department operations to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulatory standards. This role is a working Director role, which is pivotal to managing the organization's financial integrity by directing and reviewing accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, grants and financial close processes. The Director will collaborate closely Finance leadership to provide support for budgeting, forecasting, and audit activities. They will also be responsible for developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures that enhance efficiency and internal controls. Ultimately, this position ensures that all accounting functions align with the company’s goals and regulatory requirements, fostering transparency and financial stability. Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. * Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role. (non-profit accounting/finance experience required) * Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance requirements. * Proficiency with accounting software systems, including Sage Intacct. Preferred Qualifications: * Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. * CPA certification or equivalent professional accounting designation. * Experience working in a non-profit organization. * Familiarity with internal audit processes. * Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing change initiatives. Responsibilities: * Manage and supervise the daily operations of the accounting department, including but not limited to general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, grants and fixed assets. * Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and other regulatory standards. * Lead the coordination and completion of external audits and internal control assessments. * Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to improve operational efficiency and compliance. * Collaborate with senior management to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities. * Provide leadership, training, and development opportunities to accounting staff to build a high-performing team. * Monitor changes in accounting regulations and standards and ensure timely adoption within the organization. * Analyze financial data and present actionable insights to Finance leadership to support strategic decision-making. Skills: The Director of Accounting will utilize their expertise in accounting principles and financial regulations daily to ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential for managing the accounting team and collaborating with other departments and executive leadership. Proficiency in accounting software enables efficient management of financial data and streamlining of accounting processes. Analytical skills are applied to interpret complex financial information, identify trends, and provide strategic recommendations.
