Job Title: Director of Administration
Location: Fort St. John, BC
Reports to: Executive Director
Employment Type: Part-Time with the intention of becoming Full-Time
Wage: $26 - $32 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Position Summary:
The Fort St. John Métis Society is seeking a highly organized, professional, and adaptable individual to serve as Director of Administration. This is a key leadership role that supports the day-to-day operations of the Society, manages licensed bingo events under BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) regulations, assists with event planning, supports community programs, and contributes to the organization’s financial sustainability through grant writing.
This position requires excellent communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills. A strong work ethic and willingness to learn about Métis culture and support reconciliation are essential. During Bingo season it is possible that the employee will be needed from 7 – 8pm once per week in addition to regular working hours.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative & Communication Duties:
Oversee general office operations and ensure professional front-line service.
Respond to emails, phone calls, and in-person inquiries in a timely and respectful manner.
Prepare and organize reports, records, and internal communications.
Maintain filing systems (digital and physical) and manage office supplies and equipment.
Grant Writing & Fund Development:
Provide Grant writing support to the Director in charge of writing grants. Track reporting requirements and deadlines for successful applications. Assist with proposal budgets, documentation, and grant compliance.
Event & Program Support:
Assist with planning and delivery of community events, including Métis cultural celebrations, workshops, and outreach programs. At times, weekend or evening events may occur. Coordinate logistics such as venues, supplies, volunteers, and promotional materials. Support post-event reporting and follow-up communications.
Bingo Operations:
Manage all aspects of licensed bingo events in compliance with BCLC regulations. Handle cash and prepare accurate reconciliations and financial reports. Schedule and supervise event volunteers and staff. Ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-organized environment during events.
Community & Cultural Engagement:
Represent the Society with professionalism and cultural sensitivity in all interactions. Participate in cultural training and support reconciliation-focused initiatives. Build and maintain positive relationships with community members and Indigenous partners.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Must be eligible for clearance and licensing by the BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC).
Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
Experience in administrative roles, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and office systems.
Demonstrated experience or willingness to learn grant writing and reporting.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Availability to work evenings or weekends during bingo or community events.
Willingness to learn about and engage with Métis culture and reconciliation efforts.
Reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in non-profit administration, fundraising, or event coordination.
Familiarity with Indigenous communities, governance, and cultural protocols.
Knowledge or lived experience of Métis identity or culture is considered a strong asset.
