You will report directly to the Deputy Chief Philanthropy Officer and lead a dedicated team, fostering professional growth and a culture of service excellence.
This is a key leadership position that demands a versatile approach, capable of both high-level strategic planning and direct involvement in the administrative work that keeps the department running smoothly. The position will supervise a team of associate directors that are tasked with facilitating budget and finance, human resources, and operations. Your role will be integral in driving our department forward during a critical phase of growth and innovation.

Why You Should Apply:

  • Strategic Leadership: Play a pivotal role in shaping operational strategy during a transformative time for University Advancement.
  • High-Impact Operations: Lead core functions that directly influence the department’s efficiency, culture, and long-term growth.
  • Collaborative Culture: Work in a supportive environment that values clear communication, shared goals, and innovation.
  • Professional Growth: Gain exposure to cross-functional leadership and participate in executive-level decision-making.
  • Outstanding Benefits: Enjoy a comprehensive package including tuition reduction, 14.2% retirement contribution, and excellent healthcare.

Who We’re Looking For:
A dynamic, strategic leader who excels in operational planning, team development, hands-on process management, and enhancing employee experience. Your ability to navigate complex organizational structures while maintaining strong relationships will be key to success in this role.
Join Our Team:
The University of Utah’s Advancement Department is at an exciting phase of growth and innovation, on the heels of a $3B capital campaign. As the Director of Administrative Operations, you will play a crucial role in steering our department forward. If you’re passionate about making a meaningful impact in a vibrant academic setting, we look forward to your application.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communications skills required.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, or related area preferred.
  • This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.
Responsibilities
  • Financial Oversight: Manage and strategize the department’s financial operations–– including procurement, payroll, expense accounting, and the FY budget––ensuring fiscal health and accountability.
  • Space and Facility Management: Lead the planning and management of our physical spaces, creating an environment that fosters productivity and collaboration.
  • Human Resources: In collaboration with the University’s HR Department, handle and oversee human resources functions for Advancement, playing a pivotal role in employee recordkeeping, hiring, onboarding, promotions, performance management, career ladders, and fostering a positive workplace culture.
  • Strategic Liaison: In concert with Associate Directors, direct points of contact between University Advancement and key university departments like General Accounting, Purchasing, Facilities Management, and Human Resources, as well as with outside vendors and contractors.
  • Executive Reporting: Directly report to the Deputy Chief Philanthropy Officer, providing vital insights and strategic direction for departmental growth, while maintaining a close connection to the day-to-day administrative work.
  • Staff Training: Empower the staff through policies, processes, and training in close collaboration with the Talent Enhancement team.
