Description Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt Reports To: VP of Logistics Location: HBL Headquarters (On-site Required) Travel: Up to 10% About This Opportunity Hill Brothers Logistics is seeking an experienced Director of Capacity Procurement to lead our Capacity Team and drive strategic growth in our logistics division. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll guide a team of Team Leads and Capacity Coordinators while actively contributing to daily operations. You'll be at the forefront of sourcing, negotiating, and executing carrier partnerships—both asset-based and 3PL—to meet customer needs while maximizing margin growth and operational excellence. As a working manager, you'll balance strategic leadership with tactical execution, partnering cross-functionally with Sales, Account Management, and our Asset team to deliver accurate pricing, capacity insights, and service solutions in real time. What You'll Do Strategic Leadership & Team Development Lead and actively support the Capacity team's daily workload while driving performance, development, and accountability Coach Capacity Coordinators through 1:1s, shadowing, and training sessions to ensure high service standards and create growth opportunities Develop team members to effectively balance internal asset use with third-party capacity, promoting flexibility and scalability Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and operational excellence Capacity Sourcing & Carrier Management Develop and implement SOPs to standardize 3PL carrier sourcing, negotiation, and relationship management practices Identify and engage quality 3PL providers to expand HBL's carrier network and support customer diversification Build and maintain strong carrier partnerships that deliver consistent service and competitive pricing Resolve escalated carrier issues using critical thinking and problem-solving to maintain service integrity Market Analysis & Pricing Strategy Analyze carrier and 3PL partner data alongside market trends to make informed buying decisions Lead pricing strategy conversations and provide market-based input to Sales and Account Management teams Maximize gross margin while ensuring service consistency across both asset and brokered freight Participate in budgeting and P&L discussions to align transportation strategies with long-term business goals Drive year-over-year profitability growth through strategic capacity management Operational Excellence & Technology Track and enforce carrier compliance using digital tracking platforms (e.g., Trucker Tools, Four Kites) Drive toward 100% on-time performance through proactive monitoring and intervention Support system and tech advancement by partnering with leadership to evaluate automation and efficiency tools Bring forward innovative ideas to enhance the carrier experience and HBL's marketplace reputation Cross-Functional Collaboration Build strong partnerships with internal departments to ensure freight needs are met with the right carriers, at the right cost, on time Collaborate across teams to deliver the optimal mix of in-house and 3PL solutions Provide real-time capacity insights and service solutions to support customer commitments Serve as a strategic partner to Sales and Account Management for both asset and brokered freight opportunities Requirements What We're Looking For Required Experience & Education Education: Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent work experience in transportation or logistics may substitute Logistics Experience: 7-10 years in logistics operations Transportation Experience: 3-7 years in Transportation Leadership Experience: At least 3-5 years managing a team of 5 or more people Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in building carrier relationships and improving gross margin Year-over-year profitability growth in current leadership role Experience balancing asset-based and third-party capacity solutions Technical Skills Microsoft Office: Proficiency in Excel, Teams, Outlook, and Word Industry Software: Experience with TMW, DAT, and Power BI is a plus Preferred Systems: Highway, Parade, and FleetOps software experience preferred Technology Mindset: Comfort with digital tracking platforms and process automation tools Leadership Competencies Hands-On Leadership Style Leads with operational insight and active involvement in daily team activities Excellent coach and team developer with a growth-first approach Earns trust through reliability, transparency, and professionalism Strategic & Analytical Thinking Analytical mindset with strong market and margin awareness Solutions-focused and resilient in high-pressure scenarios Detail-oriented and organized in execution Driven by process improvement and technology adoption Communication & Collaboration Skilled communicator and collaborator across all organizational levels Ability to influence without authority and build cross-functional partnerships Strong negotiation skills with carriers and 3PL providers Work Environment & Schedule Location: Must work full-time at HBL Headquarters (on-site required) Schedule: Monday-Friday, minimum 40 hours per week Flexibility Required: Occasional Saturdays and after-hours availability based on business needs Physical Requirements: Office-based work with constant computer use Occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 20 lbs.
