The Director of Care – Clinical reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for the overall provision of care and services to residents, coordination of the continuous quality management program and acts as a resource and coach to employees in various clinical areas as outlined in the position summary. In conjunction with the Director of Care – Administrative, Assistant Director of Care and Staff Development Coordinator ensures compliance with legislative requirements (Ministry of LongTerm Care and College of Nurses of Ontario) and acts as a coach to the nursing employees to ensure best practices are followed. Wage Rate: The starting annual salary is $110,000.  Vacancy:  This is an existing vacancy. Responsibilities: * Provides direction to the nursing team in all aspects of resident care, and takes on the role of “In Charge” in the absence of Director of Care – Administrative and/or Executive Director. * Interprets nursing philosophy, and in collaboration with the Director of Care - Administrative and nursing team establishes and implements goals and objectives. * Addresses resident/family concerns and follow up necessary to resolve issue(s) * Provides leadership and support to employees. * Assists with the recruitment, retention and termination of nursing employees * Participates in the performance management system for nursing employees * Adheres to human resources policies when recruiting and hiring new employees * Adheres to the collective agreement(s) when implementing human resources policies * Has a good understanding of staffing patterns, and scheduling activities * Counsels employees in areas of non-compliance, inappropriate and unprofessional behaviour. Utilizes the progressive disciplinary process when disciplining employees * Demonstrates sound knowledge of the resident bill of rights and monitors residents' care to ensure employees respect residents’ rights. * Monitors supply budgets to ensure that these are being effectively managed.  * Holds registered staff meetings for the home areas they support on a regular basis to introduce new programs, policies, quality improvements, new initiatives, changes in practices and policies * Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators used by the Home and to understand which indicators are publicly reported. * Required to participate in the improvement of the indicators and achieve satisfactory results. * Coordinates assigned clinical programs. * Collects stats, collates data including analysis, identification of trends, education and recommends changes to practices. * Other duties as assigned and or indicated in Job Task Inventory Qualifications: The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows: * Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or * Registered Nurse registered with a regulatory authority in a Canadian jurisdiction, other than Ontario, and holds in that jurisdiction the equivalent of a certificate of registration authorizing independent practice in Ontario as of right exemption Bill 60 * Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience working as an RN in the long-term care sector * Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting. A positive mindset, as well as a connection with our values. * Or must have held a Director of Care position at a different LTCH without meeting the updated qualifications set out in the Regulation, on the condition that the person has had (3) years full-time experience in the position during the (5) years immediately before being hired at the different LTC home or the equivalent part-time experience in the position during the (7) years immediately before being hired at the different LTCH. * Comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based clinical practices * Comprehensive knowledge of long-term care concepts and philosophies * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills * Policy and program development * Knowledge of LTCF/RAI-MDS – AIS certified, if not must be completed successfully within one (1) year of being hired. * A positive mindset, as well as a connection with our values, * Ability to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices as they relate to long-term care legislation, * Must have demonstrated sound skills and knowledge of providing person-centred care in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures of the MLTC and the home, * Knowledgeable of the Residents’ Bill of Rights and respects and promotes these rights, * Effective communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively is essential, * Effective customer service skills and a demonstrated commitment to working with seniors are required, * Demonstrated ability to meet professional clinical infection protocols, * Ability to deal with responsive behaviour, * Basic computer skills are a must, * Demonstrated commitment to learning and continuous improvement, * To show evidence of being focused on people’s feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction. * To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’ rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk. * Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one * As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements * Two supervisory references required * Provide proof of all required vaccines.
