POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Administrator & CEO, the Director of Care (DOC) is responsible for the leadership, direction, and coordination of all nursing and resident care services. The DOC plays a key role on the senior leadership team, ensuring compliance with the Nursing Home Act, provincial standards, and organizational policies, while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and resident advocacy.
This is a leadership opportunity for a dynamic nurse leader who is passionate about delivering high-quality resident care, fostering teamwork, and driving continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree required.
  • Active registration in good standing with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB).
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive nursing experience, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Experience with human resources and financial management in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Nursing Home Act, infection control, and clinical best practices.
  • Commitment to resident-centred care, teamwork, and continuous learning.
  • Long-term care experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight to all nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, PSWs/Resident Attendants, clerks, activation staff, and volunteers).
  • Ensure resident care services meet or exceed provincial standards, with a focus on safety, dignity, and quality of life.
  • Oversee resident assessments, care planning, infection prevention and control, medication management, and risk management.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and best practices for care delivery.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, physicians, families, and community partners to ensure seamless care.
  • Lead recruitment, orientation, performance management, and ongoing professional development for care staff.
  • Provide financial oversight of departmental budgets and resource utilization.
  • Participate in inspections, accreditation, audits, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Share in the on-call leadership rotation.
