POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Care (RN) will report to the Administrator and oversee the quality of resident care in the long term care facility and together with the management team, ensures that all clinical practices and services are in accordance with the standards and legislation of the Fixing Long-Term care Act and the Home’s policies & procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience working in a geriatric or long-term care setting.
  • Experience as a leader per the FLTC Act.
  • Strong labor relations skills and experience.
  • Working knowledge of the budgeting procedures and tracking monthly spending.
  • Experience with RAI MDS and funding procedures.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and supervise the work of nursing personnel.
  • Ability to develop and implement and evaluate restorative programs.
  • Good communication, leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • On call is required on a rotational basis.
  • Comfortable working in a home that respects and practices traditional Christian values.

Responsibilities
  • Provides overall management of the Nursing Services including supervising, directing, coordinating, planning, implementing, and evaluating resident care programs.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, progressive discipline of staff and the termination process if necessary.
  • Accountable to oversee the effective operation of the mandatory nursing programs per the FLTC Act.
  • Overall accountability for the Infection Control Program including managing the IPAC lead, and evaluating the surveillance, education and outbreak management.
  • Monitors documentation for CMI requirements to meet standards and maintain appropriate funding levels.
  • Prepares the QIP plan in consultation with Health Quality Ontario.
  • Maintains up-to-date resident care plan and ensures that resident care plan is implemented and communicated to staff, Resident and the Power of Attorney
  • Promotes staff education to address gaps in skills.
  • Manages the relationship with the Medical Director to ensure satisfactory consultation on new programs and policies.
  • Engages in presenting the Quarterly Quality report to the Board of Directors.
  • Partners with the Pharmacist to lead the safe administration of medications to the policies and procedures of Nisbet Lodge using PCC, POC, eMAR, and electronic medication management.
  • Oversees the WSIB program within the LTC Home.
