Britannica has been operating since 1768, and Merriam-Webster since 1831, and these digital-first brands now serve a global audience of more than 200 million users a month and over 14 million newsletter subscriptions – with reference and lifestyle content, games and interactive features About the Role We’re seeking a driven, entrepreneurial sales rep to build and grow our premium/direct advertising revenue across Merriam-Webster and Encyclopaedia Britannica with a newsletter first approach. You’ll lead outbound efforts, build compelling proposals, and manage client relationships from prospecting, closing and renewals Location: Chicagoland/Hybrid Key Responsibilities Lead the sale of premium, non-programmatic inventory through high-value direct deals and long-term brand relationships Own the full sales cycle: prospecting, outbound, pitch development, and relationship management, with a focus on new business development Drive revenue by identifying opportunities across agencies, brand marketing, and comms teams Leverage market insights and competitive intelligence to prospect and move deals through the pipeline Build value through strong agency and blue-chip brand relationships Requirements and Skills 5–7+ years of ad sales experience in digital media, with a strong track record in newsletter and content-driven environments Proven success selling ad solutions (Premium, top of funnel sponsorships to diverse client bases) Strategic thinker with sharp analytical skills and the ability to turn data into action Relationship builder, consultative seller, and adept negotiator Self-starter mindset with a bias toward action and ownership Team spirited, strong communicator Britannica strives to provide its users with trustworthy, verified information in a constantly changing world.
