SUMMARY:

The Director of Cloud Engineering will be a pivotal leader at Lexington Clinic, responsible for strategizing, planning, and executing a comprehensive transition to a cloud-centric IT infrastructure. This role will establish a scalable, secure, and highly efficient cloud environment that directly supports the clinic’s growth objectives, enhances patient care capabilities, and drives operational cost savings. The Director will build and lead a high-performing team, championing cloud best practices and innovation across the organization.
Responsibilities

Develop and Execute Cloud Strategy: Design and implement a multi-year cloud adoption roadmap aligned with Lexington Clinic’s strategic goals, clinical Key needs, and business requirements. Define cloud architecture standards, technology choices, and migration waves.

  • Lead Cloud Migration and Modernization: Spearhead the migration of existing on-premises systems, including Electronic Health Records (EHR), Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), administrative applications, and data platforms, to designated cloud environments with minimal disruption to clinical operations. Oversee the modernization or refactoring of applications where appropriate.
  • Build and Lead High-Performing Teams: Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of skilled cloud engineers and specialists. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, automation, and excellence in cloud operations.
  • Establish Cloud Governance and Operations: Implement robust frameworks for cloud cost management and optimization, security compliance (specifically HIPAA and HITECH), identity and access management, resource provisioning, monitoring, and incident response within the cloud. Define operational playbooks for the cloud environment.
  • Drive Cloud Security and Compliance: Ensure the cloud infrastructure meets or exceeds all relevant healthcare industry regulations and security best practices. Work closely with security teams to implement preventative and detective controls, conduct regular audits, and manage risk.
  • Collaborate and Integrate: Partner closely with IT infrastructure, application development, clinical, and administrative teams to ensure seamless integration of cloud solutions with existing workflows and future initiatives.
  • Optimize Performance and Cost: Continuously monitor cloud resource utilization, performance, and spending. Implement strategies for optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements using cloud-native tools and best practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10 years of progressive experience in Information Technology, including leadership roles focused on cloud infrastructure and operations.
  • 5 years of hands-on experience architecting, migrating, and managing environments on major cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform); multi-cloud experience is a plus.
  • Proven experience leading successful large-scale IT migrations, preferably including critical healthcare systems (EHR, PACS, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of cloud security principles, best practices, and compliance requirements, with significant experience specifically navigating HIPAA regulations.
  • Strong leadership, team-building, and talent development skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.
  • Experience with IT governance, change management (CAB), risk management, and compliance frameworks.
