Job Title: Director of Coding & Compliance
Location: Remote (with limited travel, approx. 2 days/month)
Reports To: SVP, Revenue Cycle
Organization: Growth Orthopedics – MSO Specializing in Orthopedics and Ambulatory Surgery Centers
Position Summary:
Growth Orthopedics (GO) is seeking a hands-on and strategic Director of Coding & Compliance to lead all coding operations, compliance programs, and quality assurance activities across its orthopedic clinics and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, efficient, and compliant coding practices that directly support revenue integrity and regulatory compliance.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in orthopedic and surgical coding, strong leadership and vendor management skills, and the ability to build scalable coding infrastructure as GO continues to grow nationally.
Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management

  • Oversee internal coding staff and external coding vendors to ensure coding productivity and accuracy across all GO locations.
  • Provide guidance in hiring, training, and management of coding team members; establish clear performance expectations and conduct regular evaluations.
  • Design and refine organizational structure for coding functions to support scalability and operational efficiency.

Coding Operations & Quality Assurance

  • Manage day-to-day coding operations including CPT, ICD-10, and modifier assignment.
  • Ensure consistent coding quality with a target accuracy rate of >95%.
  • Lead internal and external audit programs; develop and implement corrective action plans as needed.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with current federal and state regulations, including ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and payer-specific guidelines.
  • Identify opportunities for clinical documentation improvement (CDI) and collaborate with providers and clinical teams to close gaps.
  • Maintain and update coding policies and procedures to ensure standardization across the organization.

Training & Education

  • Develop and deliver ongoing training programs for coding staff, including updates on regulatory changes, coding standards, and audit findings.
  • Educate providers and staff on documentation requirements and coding accuracy through regular touchpoints and educational sessions.

Vendor & Technology Management

  • Manage third-party coding vendors including performance monitoring, contract adherence, and quality control.
  • Collaborate with technology and RCM teams to optimize use of coding tools, automation, and workflow platforms.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) including charge lag, coding turnaround time, error rates, and denial trends.
  • Prepare executive-level reports and dashboards to provide transparency into coding operations and compliance performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management, or equivalent experience, professional outcomes
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in medical coding and revenue cycle operations, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role and strong preference given to orthopedic or multi- specialty ASC coding experience
  • Coding certification required: CPC, CCS, CCS-P, CEMC, CPMA, or RHIT.
  • Strong knowledge of orthopedic and ASC coding practices and guidelines.
  • Experience managing external coding vendors, including offshore partners.
  • Proficiency with audit tools, coding automation platforms, and data analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with remote teams.
